This isn't an open thread to WAR btw its not a 'whats best' - 'its my choice' thread at all but I am curious to the whole 'theres risks' - 'lets not hide facts' comments that loosely get thrown around about formula feeding and I to this day unless missed it/blind have not came across anyone who said their babies life & health was effected by formula feeding.

So have you ......? Be honest.

I'm simply curious because I personally don't see the 'risks' WHAT did I risk? I do not disagree that breastmilk is the natural feeding method and full of goodness (natural nutrients) but should you formula feed is your child more ill, less healthy and happy because of todays choice available. Do you know someone who can say hand on heart that this is true because they used SMA (example)?

My personal answer:
I have never came across anyone who said I regret my feeding choice because my childs life was effected and I know they are always ill because of my choice.

I was not breastfed - I am never ill the most ill I have been is an ear ache and pregnancy  because I don't so much as get a cold I'm not very good with pain.

My Caitlins 19 months old she has reflux which is common for any way you feed your child other than that shes never so much as had a cough.

**Again this isn't a thread for whats better, facts and statements taken from Google/websites (they will be deleted). Its a real life question.

To me you can stick 10 people in one room 10 people in another ask the same question and the outcome of the survey be different.

I wasnt breastfed either, and to be honest im always the one who doesnt get the cold/flu when everybody else does LOL, so im fine. Lillys been on formula since birth and she hasnt been ill, apart from a little cold once or twice. I also have never heard anybody say that there life or there childs life has been affected because of there choice of feeding x

Maybe Violet is a little young for me to really comment on her but so far, she hasn't been ill.

She's had a snuffy nose and sneezes but then she had that the first few days whilst I was BF so there's no link at all to formula causing that.

Neither me, my brother or sister were BF as my mum couldn't. We hardly ever get ill - the worst any of us have had is a bad cold and chicken pox - stuff everyone gets at some point lol

And we are not "always ill" either - no different to anybody else.

I was bf but my brothers and sister were formula fed. My sister has lupus, both brothers have diabetes and I have epilepsy. We've all been prone to infections and colds/flus etc our whole lives so I don't think there's a connection between formula and illness/disadvantages, otherwise why would I be exactly the same as my siblings on the illness front? I think it's more of a genetic thing coinciding with personal preference. xx

I didn't have a between of posting so wanted to confirm anyone is able to answer this thread just like I say the answers I want the question I am asking is real life not studies and facts what I heard ...thrown about - they will be deleted.

I think I over explained myself too  on what and why I was asking haha

lol lol! when i first read, i was thinking carefuly about what i wrote lol! you sounded like a woman on a mission in the 1st post. xx

I wasn't breastfed and I catch everything going. Caityn wasn't breastfed, and she's fine. Been ill 2 or 3 times with minor bugs.

Only thing she did have was colic, which we sorted by changing bottles x

Annabelle was lactose intolerant which she would have been with formula or breast so regards to that i dont think it makes much difference, she hasnt been very ill since being born except with lactose problems and skin problems due to lactose. i have a friend who breastfed first 6 months and her little one is always poorly, i PERSONALLY dont see any risks with it, well not for us anyway

My Daughter was FF on Infasoy from 1mth as she was allergic to Milk (inc my Breast Milk) and she is never poorly(touch wood!),she has had chicken pox and about one cold that I can remember. Finnlay is FF and has no issues with Milk so far,if I had any concerns about formula then I wouldnt be feeding him formula milk. I was a FF baby and I am very rarely poorly, cant remember the last time I was!!.I think that there is an awfull lot of scaremongering at the moment with regards to Formula. I do not know anybody who had FF who has a baby affected by being FF.x

i cannot comment on kyle really but.. both me and my little brother where not breastfed and i get ill more then he does infact if his ill you no something is really really wrong where as me i will get 2-3 colds a year and always get a bad cough at one point in the year and for 2 years in a row now i have had tonsillitis :dohh:

The only thing that makes me wonder is... I was breastfed for 18 months. My sister wasnt breastfed at all. Im very healthy with no allegies my sister has had million allergies including cows milk, tomatoes, various e numbers. But then that could be explained by the fact that we have different fathers, so different gene pool.

me and my brother were both formula fed, i had bad excema when i was little and asthma, he has never had any sickness or illness at all! ( he is a pain in the ass but don't think that can be blamed on formula?)

2 friends of mine both have boys same age as each other ( 2 years old ) the one who was formula fed has never been poorly and the one who was bfed is always poorly!

so i really don't know either way, I combine feed Fred now and like any mum however they feed their child I just hope im doing the best for him and that he is healthy xx

From my own personal experience 90% of the children in my family were FF and they havent had any "effects" or ill health. No one ever really gets poorly or anything, but perhaps we just have a good immune system?

I rarely catch colds and bugs when lots of other people have them, and hopefully Brooke will be the same, she hasnt been poorly as of yet, only with reflux but that has nothing to do with feeding, thats the body, she would of had that FF or BF

However my step sisters and brothers were BF and they actually have quite a lot of allergies to certain things, my stepmum has to carry an epi pen for my brother charlie.

So no ... not seen any "effects" of FF in my family, nor people i know

I think in these "reports" peoples health and immune systems in general are overlooked, your immune system and health is more likely to be hereditory than based on what you are fed on IMO. Your either succeptable to illness or your not ... doesnt matter whether your BF or FF

Err well my Seth is lactose intolerant which seemed to have been made worse by switching to formula but only because I cut lactose out of my diet when I was breastfeeding as advice from someone on here because he was getting nasty wind.

Anyway, I sort of regret not keeping on breastfeeding, but I couldn't have done anything about it. I went back to work and I dont drive so I cant keep nipping back to nursery whenever it suits me. and anyway, I would have had to stop at some point so its probably better that I did it when he was younger. I regret that it made him poorly, but I regret more my choice of Drs surgery as it took them no less that 7 months to pick it up.

Seth is always poorly, He gets everything going, he is really skinny and im sure its affected his development as well.

So considering I breastfed for 6 months (exclusively for 4 then went on to solids but keft breastfeeding) Im a terrible example lol

*edit* Ive just read that back and it makes no sense :s

I'll answer your q as simply as I can :)

Have you ever known a child to be effected by formula milk? No.

Lol!

My sister was lactose intolerant and was sensitive to breast and formula milk. She had to drink soy milk. She is never sick. She has thrown up once in her life.

I was on formula, a couple months of breast, and I get sick quite a bit.

My OH was on formula, rarely gets sick. Has been sick maybe once in the past 6 years.

Helena is on formula, she has had one high fever and a cold but no ear infections or anything so far. She did have eczema and sensitive skin, but she had that when I was breastfeeding her.

Ok mine is based on my 3 kids :) Landon was only nursed a couple weeks then was on formula, Casen nursed until 11mo formula occasionally from 7mo and then until 13mo. Hayden nursed exclusively until 14mo then had rice milk, self weaned from the breast at 19mo, never a drop of formula

All 3 of my boys have had some battles with eczema but Landon's by far has been the worst and he still has it now at 6...Casen outgrew his before he was 2, Hayden seems to have for the most part too and theirs never got as bad as Landon's was.

As for being sick Hayden gets sick the least amount, but they all get sick around the same BUT Landon does take the longest usually to get better. Usually Casen and Hayden get something and it's usually more mild and goes away quicker...but that isn't alwyas the case. Landon also got more tummy bugs and other mild colds as a baby than the other 2 did. I don't know if it's the breastfeeding, I tend to think Hayden not being vaccinated has something to do with ti as well..and as a baby he would get something an in 24hrs was better where as when my other 2 got the same things as babies it took a bit longer. So I think it's a mix of the 2..but vaccines is another thread haha.

all 6 of mine have had breast milk for the first few days/weeks of their lives, then gone onto formula, and the eldest 5 are all fit and healthy!! they all had the same brand (sma) and apart from the usual childhood sniffles and snuffles they have not had any major illnesses,so i am quite happy knowing that little Ernie will probably grow up just as fit and healthy as his brothers and sisters :)

No none of my kids have been affected by FF and no one i no has either xxx
