Hello - happy new year to all. As usual at the start of the new year I start to think of what I can do to make improvements in my life and I've decided whilst there isn't much more I can do to get pregnant, I would like to sort out my diet! I'm vegetarian and must confess I can be quite unhealthy a lot of the time. I struggle with protein and just wondered if there are any fellow veggies out there who have any tips for a healthy, fertility boosting diet. I have also heard that soya is bad and I am confused as to whether quorn and tofu is soya based - I keep reading such conflicting advice. Any tips greatly appreciated. Let's have a happy, healthy 2012 with lots of bfp's in the ltttc group x

i'm not veggie but don't eat loads of meat. i've started to eat loads of crudites with houmous and other healthy dips. also eat loads of pulses and lentils

Hey, I'm also veggie, have been for about 17 years...I'm WTT, I saw your post on the board index, I hope you don't mind me chipping in?

Quorn is not soya-based, it's made from mycoprotein, which is similar to the type of fungus that makes a mushroom. Tofu on the other hand does come from soya.

As purplesparkle says, pulses help with protein...lentils, beans, things like that. They have the added benefit (as does quorn) of having lots of fibre, too. I like chilli made with red kidney beans, and soups with red split lentils. Also eggs and low-fat dairy like cheese and milk have protein without too much 'bad' fat, plus lots of calcium, and vitamin B12 which also helps in a veggie diet. Eggs are also good for omega-3 fatty acids.

Other than that, plenty of fruit and veg, some cereals/grains, and a little 'junk' food (a bit of chocolate won't hurt if you fancy it every so often, lol), and you won't go far wrong :D

I really hope you get your BFP soon :flower:

Im not a veggie but I was one for many years, I was always put off by quorn and tofu as it always felt really manmade, like eating the foam out of my settee ;-) but I do love my veggies!!! I LOVE doing a tray of veggies such as tomatoes, peppers, aubergine, courgettes, oinions etc in the oven, really yummy!! carrot soup tastes yummy and creamy and tastes naughty even thought it isnt! or a broccoli and stilton soup (but thts quite naughty!) do you eat fish?? x

Hiya, Im veggie too :) trying to be healthy and also loose a bit of weight.
I also really want to boost my protein intake. Eating omlettes & lots of brazil nuts (which are also great for his swimmers). Chickpeas & lentils. Sweet potatos. Green veg - broccoli, spinach. Advocados are also meant to be good. And tomatos (again also vg for his swimmers). I dont really eat quorn or tofu & v little processed food. Good luck & lots of babydust xx

Hello - I just wanted to say thank you from all of your replies. I've just got back from our weekend away for New Year and I'm ready to try out your suggetions, I think beans and lentils are what I am missing and a hearty beany chilli sounds like a perfect substitute to even quorn. I think I need to get some recipie books. Thanks again for all you help xx
