Heartbeat - Old wives tales????

Hi, what is the old wives tale about the speed of babies heartbeat????

I cant remember what it is and heard my baby's HB today and it sounded quite slow compared to what I remember my last 2 pregs xxxxxx

Over 140 means a GIRL and under 140 means a BOY.........my lil ones heartbeat is 144 I don't believe in any of that.

Diddnt get a number, just sounded slower than what i remember my 2 girlies sounded so that may fit in with my gut feeling of a boy....I hope so, would be lovely to have a little boy with my 2 girls xxxxx

At 7 wks our little girls HB was 137bpm.From then on at every appt. its been above 140

The version that I've heard most often is that boys' heart rates are below 140bpm and girls' heart rates are above 140bpm, but I wouldn't place too much stock in that - the studies that have been done on the topic have shown the "theory" to be rubbish.

Its rubbish. According to the theory I should be having a girl. Bubbas hb was 162 but hes all boy

Of all the wives tales this has held water the least. Definitely can ring true for an individual but on a population level its as wrong as it is right!

My boy has always had a hearbeat above 150.

It's always worked for me, but I say between 140 and 150 who know but above 150 a girl and below 140 a boy, my midwives have said its true 85% of the time x

It also depends on when the HB is taken.
I read HB is faster after you eat.

My gender scan is tomorrow, and so far its HB has been 150-160. We'll see if it's really a girl.

My friends and coworkers said it'll be a boy, because I've never had morning sickness. Their doctors told them that.

I dont really believe old wives tales and dont take it seriously, its just fun guessing lol xxxx

it was fun using it to guess but its not a set in stone theory. Its similar to a coin toss or a urine test lol as it works for half of all women half of the time and the other half it doesn't. My little girls HB was 170 in in the first few weeks then at 12 week scan it was 160 now its about 140bpm so I guess it fits in with the old wives tale but it could go down even more then...

They never tell me what the heart rate is I just hear it. Although if I remember correctly this one sounds slower than my first

My son's heart rate was always between 144-165...this baby is between 135-150 so who knows! Lol

Really their doctors told them its a boy because they have no sickness??..........think they need go back to med school then, i have had terrible sickness and im having a boy & know others that are the same.

Heard hb at 15,16 & 18weeks 5days, only one i was told was the 18week 5days one was 150bpm and was told at 20week scan boy

I dont know if hb has anything to do with gender, but here is an interesting tidbit. There was a study done on heart rate in correlation to babies with down syndrome. It turns out that babies with down syndrome have higher heart rates. ***Definitely not saying that if a baby has a high heart rate it has DS! It just happens that babies with DS most often have high heart rates.

Im also not big on these old wives tales but they are fun!!

My two girls HB were 161 & 167 at their 12week u/s and this little bean was 153 at our 12week u/s and the last doc check up which was 2 wks ago it was 143.

We find out gender in 6days, cant wait!!
