Ok can someone please give me some hope. I stared having brown spotting(like 3-4 drops; no cramping) I freaked out and went to the ER for some peace of mind. The doc said my HCG was 9, 229!!! He then sent me for a transvaginal ultrasound. He said he was worried because he did not see a fetal pole. I did some research and found it was normal not to see the fetal pole at 5w2d. He did however see the yolk sac and gestational sac. He was worried because he said with an HCG that high he should see a fetal pole and thought I was further along. I know for a fact that I am 5w2d because I charted when we had sex which was only one time that month; sadly my fault :winkwink: The spotting has stopped BTW. I guess my question is...is it normal to have that high of HCG right now??? has anyone had any similar experiences?

HCG will vary from person to person, the important thing is that it is doubling. And I would get a new Dr if he was really concerned about no fetal pole at 5+2! When do you go back for another scan?

That was an ER doc so I know he doesn't know too much about that stuff. I made an appt for Friday. He has still got me so worried. Do you think the brown spotting was normal. The nurse said that is was. Thank you for the reply

Brown spotting can be normal. As long as it doesnt turn red/clots and bad cramps I would say you are OK. I hope the u/s goes well on Friday, be sure to update us! BTW, most wont see a FP until some time after 6 weeks so dont get discouraged if they cant see it.

I had a 5+1 scan this week and was told you can't see the fetal pole at this stage, so I wouldn't worry too much about that :)

we couldn't see anything at my first ultrasound around 5w.. but at 5.6w we saw the fetal pole :) hang in there!!! :hugs:

Hang in there! I'm sure all is well! As all the other ladies shared, you usually don't see the fp that early. And as far as the spotting...I had very light brown spotting around that time and I talked to my nurse and she said it could still be implantation bleeding since it was so early on! ;)

5w2d is way too early to see a fetal pole! I'm surprised he worried you like that. We didn't see a fetal pole at my 5w4d u/s.

I know...my thoughts exactly. I think his concern was that he should have seen a FP with an HCG that high.

I wouldn't even give what he said a 2nd thought, pregnancy clearly isnt his specialty...... Thats too early to see a fetal pole and as far as hcg levels go they have a great amount of variance from one person to another and one pregnancy to the next.... Kick your feet up and relax, you ARE PREGNANT!!:happydance::happydance::happydance:
