Hi there ladies. I am only 23 years old and i have a 7 month old son and currently 11 weeks pregnant. To start it off with my first i went over by 13 days and had to b induced. Got epidural the pain was so bad. He got tired and heartbeat was dropping so all these doctors rushed in and had a vontose delievery. He was a big 9lbs7ozs ! I got taken away to get stitched for 1 hour and 30mins. Afterwards a was in so much pain. Legs like elephants. Sore down there. Id say ive healed ok. But i hav constant piles n sometimes sore during sex. My legs took 8 weeks before going bk to normal. They always cramped n RLS. I lost loads of blood so was on so much medication afterwards. I had a stitch left in me which fell put at 12weeks pp. i wouldnt like to replay that all over again.

I have got the option to go for a c section. But its a major op. Could i do it to b in so much pain but b fully recovered in 6 weeks. Or risk going natural to not tear. Or end up tearing again but ending up with life long problems such as peeing or pooping myself n much worse n jst b unlucky to not heal nxt time. Ill hav a 13 month old so havin a c section would b difficult n looking after my son never mind a new born aswell. Or it could b different nxt time if a go natural next time if my baby wasnt as big. And i didnt hav epidural as tht stopped me frm being able to push. This is jst all so confusing. Has anyone got any advice. ? Or been through this?
Thanks :)

Its confusing isnt it. I too had a 3rd degree tear last time and also lost a lot of blood. I really dont want to go thru that again but the thought of a c-section scares me too much. Im pretty sure im going to try for a natural birth again but knowing im likely to tear do everything i can to prevent it. I dont know if it being less than 2 yrs since my first will help or hinder.

Where do you live? Have you had any tests to see how you've healed?
I had a 3rd degree tear with my 1st LO and when he was 6 months old I went for tests to see how well everything had healed and assess my risk of serious damage if I tried for a vaginal delivery the next time. I'd healed really well and although I was confident in trying for a vaginal with number 2. I was consultant led and at first he encouraged me to think of a c-section but accepted that I wanted to try for a vaginal delivery. With my 1st I delivered on my back and he came out with his hand on his head which caused most of the tearing. He was 9lb 15oz which was quite big for my frame and not being able to be mobile meant I couldn't get him into a good position for delivery.
With my 2nd I was mobile at home and then got to the hospital at 8cm and straight into a birthing pool. It was great, I'd really recommend it. It made a big difference being able to move around in the water and kneel up when I delivered her. I had tiny 1st and 2nd degree tears and didn't get any stitches :). She was only 8lb but came out like her brother (back to back, arm up but she was shoulder first rather than hand first) so I think if I'd delivered on my back it might have gone worse tearing wise. My recovery was fast and I was up and about once I'd delivered the placenta and able to care for my toddler no problem.

Just to add i had a water birth and think it actually contributed to my 3rd degree tear so i wudnt recommend it at all altho i see a lot of others would!

I think you really need to discuss this deeply with your midwife team, you have the option of checking babies size during the pregnancy so if it seems at later stages baby is going to be big you could take the option of a section then. From what you went through it sounds like a section could be a good option for you and a planned one is said the be a easier recovery than an emergency (I had an emergency one and it was a tough 6 weeks with a newborn let alone a toddler too)
You could look into perennial massage sessions to help make the area more able to stretch and help babies route out.

Lots of options for you really so make the most of the professionals and let them know your issues so they can help.

Hello! Congratulations! I too am 23, pregnant with my 2nd after also experiencing a 3rd degree tear from my 10lb 1.5oz DD! Although I know we both have a long time to decide I too am torn (excuse the pun) on the matter....

I think Im gearing more towards risking it. I personally believe it was because I was also induced. I don't think being induced was bad...it was great. I had a very intense but very short labour. But it didn't give my body the time it needed to stretch and prepare itself for delivering a baby... a bloomin' big one at that!

And as horrible as it was afterwards.... that moment of giving birth was so precious. I don't think i'd even mind. I didn't last time.

Do whatever you feel most comfortable with :) Don't feel pressured, forced or guilted into anything.

Definitely something to discuss with your OB/GYN about. C-sections are major surgeries and each baby is different. :flower:

Thanks for ur comments. Ive done alot of reading stories frm both c sections and tears. I feel i am going to brave it out n try push this one out n hopefully not hav another 3rd degree tear. A section would b too hard as id hav a 13month old needing me aswell. So time to eat more healthy this pregnancy and hope for a smaller baby lol. Ill try not go for a epidural but i said id never get one ever and in labour a screamed for one so who knws :p

My first birth was very similar to yours...induced, epidural, heart rate dipping and had forceps delivery. Resulted in 3rd degree tear.
Was given option with 2nd pregnancy about csection or not. I decided for natural due to having dd at home. I had a totally different experience this time round and baby was bigger. I did get a 2nd degree tear but more due to the fact labour was very quick..about 30/40mins. Healing well and glad I chose this way.
I think it totally depends how well u think u have healed. I would def get opinions of dr and midwife esp because of the closeness of pregnancies. I have a 2.5yr gap so I'd def take advice.
Gd luck.x

hmm well i have only had one baby and it was via C section, no labour or tearing and the scar is minimal and i imagine if you have constant piles and are still sore down there, that would make me want a C section. Honestly the recovery was easy. i was showering on my own by day two and on normal paracetamol by the next day as long as i had it every four hours. The first two hours are strange as long as you have intravenous you are fine and you get walking, i was sitting with my legs crossed and moving around the next day, its honestly mainly scare tactics people use and although its major surgery it does not feel like it. It was an okay experience for me and i had to be wheeled in at 37 weeks due to severe pre eclampsia. My baby was healthy and a good 8lbs 12oz...
that is just my opinion and experience. its not that bad and as for recovery within two weeks i was not in pain, not until i got my first AF ouch!! but the other stuff like the first bowel movement was painless and no pain in peeing either :D

My first was back to back resulting in ventose delivery. Massive tear that didn't heal, resulting in lots of infections and eventually needed a op to get repaired. Second was a section and it was totally different. I would have a section any day before I'd go threw a tear again.... everyone is different though x

My 1st was emergency c- section, and my 2nd was VBAC with 3rd degree tear. I would say the first few weeks after each were equally bad, but fine from both now. Not sure what I would do if given the choice again. Think I would go C-section.

I had a 3rd degree tear with my 1st. I gt pregnant 4 months after delivery and wS so scared.
I decided to take risk and was induced at 39 weeks, I had a easy peasy labour lasting 3 hours and not a scratch. Xx

I agree with what is posted here. The tearing was horrible, but I think I'd risk it again over the c-section. That's just me though.
