Hi all

Noah is 3 weeks tomorrow and always goes 4 hours between feeds during the day and usually 5 at night drinking 4oz however ....

Iv found the feeding times which really suit us are 11,3,7 and would like to keep it to this but with him going 5 hours during the night he ends up feeding at 11pm (perfect) but then goes until 4am and then 9am and obviously this knocks us off his times for the next day?!

I wanted to start a routine of bath, bottle, bed but due to the above the evening feed times end up changing.

Iv thought of setting an alarm after his 11pm feed for 3am and 7am but then im thinking why am I trying to bring night feeds closer together??

Hmmmm, anyone with any experiences or advice?

xxx

i think he is a little too young for a routine yet and you should go with the flow atm :flower:

i know what you mean i like to feed at certain times but with him doing different times on a night it knocks the day off and also if we are out in the car/pram he tends to go longer so i think it's near impossible to always stick to certain times. Plus i agree with smelly07 it's a little early to be in such a strict routine it's bound to change .... it will most likely change the older they get anyway as they will eventually go longer and longer on a night until they sleep through. x

I have been trying to do the exact same thing and have had the exact same problem! Although I wanted 9, 1, 5, 9, which suited him completely apart from the fact that he fed whenever he wanted in the night and so the morning feed would never fall at 9am!

So what I do now is if he wakes for feeding about 7 (2 hours before I want him to feed) I just give him a smaller bottle, like 2 or 3 oz (he normally has 4oz) and then feed him again at 9am on 4 oz and he seems quite happy with this. Sometimes I leave him til half 9 and then feed at 1 and that works too.

So you could try feeding a smaller bottle at 4am to keep him going and then his usual bottle at 7am.

my baby is nearly 6months and we are having this issue. Not that im bothered, hes a baby he cant tell the time. Only that hes hungry. Your baby is 3weeks old and your trying to get into a routine? Id just go with the flow

I had a routine for days from day one - with twins imo you have to. I used to feed them at 6.30am whatever time they had fed in the night then the day was all fine. Sam always went longer in the night than Fynn but it still worked - I also fed them every three hours rather than four the theory being that they get all their calories in the day and sleep longer at night. The boys started sleeping 12 hours at 16 weeks xx
