Help, please? Which temp to use?

Good morning lovelies,

I have a question for any veteran charters:

I awoke at 3:45am and I had to use the bathroom, so I temped before getting up incase I couldn't fall back asleep. It was 36.41. I, later, awoke at my usual time of 6am and temped again. It was 36.57. Here's the kicker: I am due to ovulate and when I plugged the two different temps with 2 of my normal post-o temps they each signify a different o day. So, I don't know which to use. I did go to sleep earlier than usual last night, but I've done that before and my temp wouldn't show a difference, if taken at normal time. However, I didn't get more than 3 hours after waking up in the middle of the night this time, so I'm weary.

I can attach my chart if anyone would like to see.

Thank you!

Ohh, I had this this month too! So annoying! I was unwell overnight on the day I got a positive OPK and had a very restless sleep because I was in so much pain. I got a temp of 37.5 when I first woke up at 4am and 36.1 at my usual 7am..! If I plug in 37.5, I ovulated on the Thursday. 36.1, I ovulated on the Friday! In the end, I decided to go with the first temp I took as I think I had a deeper sleep before hand...

So I would personally go with when you think you had a deeper sleep and make a note of the other temp. and try your best to match ovulation up with other signs. And just remember when your testing you might be a day or so out with DPO! Would be interesting to see your chart though..?

I'm still unsure about ovulation, chart is in my signature. I got a strong positive OPK @ 11am and 7pm on the Thursday, so I'd be surprised if I ovulated on that day as I thought it was at least 12-24 hour later? So I'm still thinking I ovulated on Friday?

The coverline looks appropriate for your pre and post o temps thus far, but I can see how you'd think you o'd on Friday based on cm.

That was my first thought, because I usually have gotten a good rest before taking temp, so that's why I don't know if I trust the later, higher reading. That and my cm was sticky yesterday after being ew and having cramps the 14th. I won't know for sure if I even have ovulated for two more days, but I am like clockwork. Although, I typically O on the 16th & have a 12 day lp causing 28 day cycles. However, I have had confirmed ovulation on cycles as short as 23, so it wouldn't be unusual for me to have an early O this month, as I have been perfect the last two and only one day late the 3rd.

Here's my chart thus far with the two different temps.

Oh, and pardon the random, discarded, high temp. I was restless & had the ac higher than usual. (Probably why I was so restless, but I didn't realize it until the next morning)

I guess day 14 looks more likely for you? I'm quite new to all this but I assume you would still have EWCM on ovulation day? And if you had a better sleep, it all points to day 14.. :)

That's what I think, too. However, I found many articles & people saying they don't have ewcm or watery on actual O day sometimes. I usually have ewcm, myself. So, I'm leaning towards the 14th. Although, if I uncheck the discarded temp it takes O to 16.

Here's my unaltered chart with the lower, (fingers crossed) more accurate temp of the 2.

Your chart looks promising with the climbing temps so far. How long is your lp? When do you plan to test?

Temping is confusing sometimes! I always take two temps when I immediately wake up and they are always different! Even though I've barely moved! If it's not to be this month, I'm getting myself a better thermometer!

This is my first month of tracking anything, so I'm not entirely sure about LP. That said, back in May I went for my smear test and the nurse had a nightmare finding my cervix (what an experience!). Then 13 days later, I got my period. So I'm guessing that correlates with ovulation around the day of my smear test and a 13-14 day LP!

I was trying to hang on until Thursday but I did a test today but don't think I could see anything.. but I'm not too disheartened yet as its still early. I only have one test left, so I'm def hanging on until Thursday morning now!

That it certainly can be! I haven't taken two temps back to back, but now I'm going to have to. lol. I have a basal thermometer, so I hope it's not the issue. We're actually NTNP currently, but I've been tracking my cycle for years so no sense in stopping now.

It could be a 13-14 day lp. Before temping, I would have ovulation pain the same number of days before I started. So, I guessed mine was that. However, I've since learned I have a 12 day lp and o cramps about 18 or so hours before. What sucks is since my MMC a few months ago, I no longer get O pains.

Yeah, you still have time. I hope you get your :bfp: soon! Lots of baby dust your way!
:dust:

Thank you! So Sorry to hear of your loss :( fingers crossed for you too!

Temping really is confusing! Same happened to me this morning. Awoke at 06:00am and my temp was 35.4 but when I took it at 06:40am whcih is the normal time, it was 36.4 (but that could be because I was getting so cold I put my heater blanket on). Either way, I used my second temp rather as its only CD10 for me so I am not due to O until a little later and my temps generally range between 36.2-36.4

Thank you. I'm really nervous this time around, but hopeful.

It does look appropriate on your chart. I know when I'm hot or cold it reflects in my temps.

I feel better about my chart today. I believe I did O on day 14, but I did awake from a dream last night, again. Which caused me to go to the bathroom, but I slept well & later than usual. I put the temps in the temp corrector for shits & giggles and the two temps correct to 36.64 & 36.57. So, I took the middle, because the two actual temps look weird on my chart.

Momma13, just do loads of BD,that way you are covered no matter what your temps are doing 😁

I wish I could swing that, Aphy! Every other day is the most I can get out of my SO. We're a decade apart in age, so he says he's too old. Haha.

EOD is still impressive, my DH is 35 and he struggles often with even that!

Now I don't feel so bad. Fingers crossed it won't even be of concern for a while.
