Help with the basics

Hi Girls,

So my baby boy arrived on Saturday.....he if breast feeding brilliantly !

My Milk arrived yesterday afternoon so i just have a few questions


Whats the best thing to do when your boobs are full, rock hard and really sore....does anything help apart from emptying them ??

He wants feeding around every 2 and a half hours....and feeds for around 20 mins. Does this sound right ??

I alternate breasts after a 20min feed. If its less i tend to go back to the same breast about half hour later. Is this right ??

Am I on the right track ??

Any suggestions as to best way forward ??

I want to get him into a routine fairly early but want to also just relax for a week or so

Demand feeding is brilliant for building up your supply, just keep emptying them when they start to hurt.

you sound like u r doing a great job well done! as for being full just keep feeding. dont pump too much just to empty them as your boobs will think they need to produce more milk, and if you dont need that much you could get leaky boobs all the time. They will settle down in about a week hun. I didnt find the first week very nice

try pumping between feeds with electric pump and using a hot pack to massage breasts to help with engorgement

Actually for engorgement for just starting bfing the cold compress is what you should use. Hand expressing helps some. Pumping too much will make it worse so be careful at first. Mine got HUGE and rock hard right up to my neck. The cold felt much better. It'll go down soon and they'll be nice and soft again soon.(unless he misses a feed lol, that's when you break out the hot compress) Happy you both are doing so well!!
