Hello fellow IVF ladies

Well all I can do is commend the NHS so far.... my referral form went off on Tuesday and by Wednesday I had an appointment at the Herts and Essex!! My appointment is on the 8th March and I have been assigned to Dr. Daniel Imoedemhe.

Has anyone seen him before??? If so what is he like??

Glad to get the show on the road BUT nervous... just hope I get my bubba xx:baby:

Hiya Noelle

I have had him and he is really nice. he explains things, lets you ask questions and is friendly and relaxed. Just on my way there now to have embryo transfer!

xx

Good luck Silarose... you deserve success this time!! So after this you will be in the TWW - have you taken time off, what are your plans??

Once I have my first appointment what happens then?? Trying to suss out what to do about work... nightmare couple of months coming up including a conference abroad!!

xxx

Hiya

Dr Daniel just did my transfer . He is really nice :) I am putting my feet up this afternoon .

There is no waiting list after your initial appointment and they let me choose when I started . I have had nhs and private funded cycles and it is the same for both . Whilst they are flexible about when you start you do need to be available for scans etc during the process . I need at least a week off for ec and et . Ec hurts and I think it is important to be relaxed at this time . I take annual leave to make sure I have the time I need . Good luck with your appointment x

Good luck Silarose... please keep me in touch with how you get on

Thanks for your advise, enjoy your booked relax time - good luck xx:thumbup:

noelle1979 - sorry to jump straight in here but i'm new to all this and my head is spinning with what happens on the nhs route and i'm in essex too.

I saw my gp yesterday and had to decide whether to go nhs or private (time is of the essence as i have diminished ovarian reserve). She wasn't able to give me a time frame and so i've opted to pay for private.....but funds are gonna be tight and i'd rather round 1 was on the nhs tbh.

I think we might be in the same pct. Can I ask do you mean it was 1 day after your GP sent the form off you got the herts& essex appointment?
Or is there a 'middle man' and how long did it take roughly for you to see him/her to then get the referral onto herts and essex.

I am so confused by it all and my doctor just can't tell me the process and estimated timescales. I've had my diagnostics and dh is having a private SA next week.

Nell - I was worried about waiting times too so I simply ran up all of the ones I was interested in to see what their current wait times were. They are all really helpful.

Sorry I forgot to say - for some of them paying privately doesn't bump you up the list.

mich1 - thanks. I think i'm maybe confused about the process. My GP made it sound like I would be referred to a consultant at the hospital first and then onto a clinic. It's the wait to see the consulant i'm worried about really.
Infertility is stressful enough why is it as clear as mud 'what happens now' !

Sorry I see what you mean now! Tbh it doesn't get any clearer as you go on. Basically where I am I had to be referred by my GP to a hospital consultant. My GP booked my consultant appointment online whilst I was there so I am not sure why they couldn't have done the same for you. Once I got to the appointment I then had loads of tests, went on clomid for 6 months and then got referred for IVF. I suspect the process when you get to consultant will be different as sounds like you know the problem.

My advice is chase the GPs secretary about where your referral to the consultant has gone. I found the only way to get things moving is chase, chase and chase again. In fact I found out I needed a rubella jab as my old one had "worn out" and that delayed things by a couple of months for me but the only way I found out was by chasing!!

Nell I agree with Mich...if you have a problem which only requires IVF then you will go straight into the system for IVF. We did, ours was morphology so nothing else was worth trying!! You will have to see your consultant who will fill in the form. If you are in Herts PCT they will offer Hammersmith... DON'T GO THERE!! I have friends that went there and they had awful experiences... H&E is great with no waiting time. When you are there insist on getting a referral to H&E. I brought all of my medical docs with me to the consultant appointment to prevent any hold ups.. this meant everything was in front of him. You will need an HIV and other blood tests, get these done through your GP and bring the results... you may need your partner's semen analysis.

So as Mich said, go armed with the docs, when the consultant fills the form in, give him copies of your documents and then call the secretary the day after to ensure it has been faxed. Once it has been faxed you will get a call from the H&E within a day or so.

Mich and I have been on our journey together and have had positives... (although early on but hopeful it will be all ok). Good luck and feel free to message me if you need any info xxx

I would just like to say that the herts and essex clinic were fantastic all the staff are so helpful, which was a welcome change after a long wait and coping with unhelpful staff at the st albans fertility clinic, once referred we got our first appointment within a week.

The best bit off course is the IVF worked and we are expecting in July, so good luck to all you ladies! x :) x

We chose H & E to be reffered to as it is so convenient for us.

We first went to our docs, my tests were fine, hubbys were poor. Got reffered to a gyno at southend hospital after his 2nd test coming back the same.

he straight away said it has to be ICSI with hubbys results so he sent us for all our blood work. All came back ok except my FSH. They said was too high for NHS to accept us. So I waited and did another text last week but found out yesterday after me calling for results that they were still high BUT they had sent my forms off anyway on the Wed to H & E to ask for funding.

I couldn't wait and having been there Thursday for an open evening, I thought sod it, I am going to ring to make sure they had received the paperwork as they faxed it Wednesday. Anyway they had and we had been accepted. They tried to ring me on the Thursday but the hospital had given them a wrong number.

Soooo we are booked in for our first consultation on 20th May. So to answer your question, the hospital sent my form Wednesday, Thursday the clinic tried to ring to say it was accepted and to book us in (which was amazingly quick) and we have our first initial appointment with clinic within 1 month :happydance::happydance: Sooner if they get a cancellation

It is a very quick process once the gyno send it off xxxxxxxxxx
