Hi ladies, I haven't been on here for ages, hope your all well! I'm currently doing an access to nursing course at college and have to create a leaflet on the topic of my choice. I was thinking of doing something to do with prem babies, possibly CLD, the risks of RSV after discharge, benefits of skin to skin etc... I'm not sure what to do though and thought who better to ask than the lovely ladies who have been through it! Soo...any ideas on topics, info to put in, design etc would be amazing! Maybe even a leaflet for friends and relatives of premmie parents about what not to say!? (the whole, oh you lucky thing not having to do night feeds etc etc)

Thanks for any help!

xx

Ps - If I did it on premmies in general, do you think the title ''born into a plastic bag'' would be rude/insensitive?

I think doing your assignment on preemies is a wonderful idea! CLD is a good choice. I know we are currently dealing with it and our preemie is almost a year old. I am really hoping we can get rid of the night time oxygen support soon but she was so early she may need it for awhile yet. Another idea would be a leaflet that explained some of the common medical terms and issues of preemies in a way that will be easy for a scared and overwhelmed mom to understand... maybe even make it as comforting as possible. In the first few weeks of her life, we were hit with terms like bowel perforation and NEC, DPA Ligation, CLD, IVH... and the meds... wow!

I am the type of person who needs to know and understand all that is happening so any leaflet I would have received would have been appreciated. Not sure if this would work for your assignment, but I also found that reading success stories of other micropreemies was incredibly comforting to me. Some days, reading the stories on the walls in the NICU hallways was the only thing that kept me 'together'.

Oh yeah... the title you suggested... it kind of makes me cringe. It is so terrifying to have a baby so early, I would suggest something a bit less scary sounding.
