Someone posted on here a couple of weeks ago about an older child having hip dysplasia. My LO was diagnosed this week so I thought I might share my experience in the hope it will help someone else.
My LO is 10 months old in a couple of days and at her 8 month checking pestered the nurse until she checked her hips. It turned out she had asymmetrical folds which would require an ultrasound. By the time we were able to get in for an ultrasound she was a week off 10 months and therefore needed an X-ray as the bone had started to form.
These were delivered to thr dr that day and the following day we were referred to an orthorpedic surgeon and the appointment booked for "2 days time. The surgeon wasted no time reccommending a brace and sending us off to get it straight away.
LO will bein the rhino brace for 12 months full time (22 hours a day) and then at night for a while. We have just had the first night sleeping in it and although its now 6 a and she is sleeping in my arms she did really well last night.
I guessing want to reassure others that although it can be missed early children adapt, it's worse for us than it is for them.
