I have seen quite a bit on here about worried/scared moms, early water leakage, and preterm labor. I just wanted to share a true story from one of my best friends. I know this seems scary but it turns out well so please take the time to read.:
One of my closest friends was pregnant last year with her 4th. Up until her second trimester everything looked great! But, with no warning, at 19 weeks her water broke! no labor, just water. she lost so much fluid that the doctors kept her in the hospital on antibiotics hoping to keep the baby in as long as possible but they proceeded to tell her that her chances of the baby surviving was very low and tried to prepare her for the worst. Slowly over the next week or so her waters replenished themselves! After about another week the doctors were very surprised to scan her and find out that the baby was still alive, healthy, and floating in new fluid!! needless to say she was placed on bed rest and released from the hospital with Doc appointments every week. By 22 weeks the baby was healthy and growing again. Problems still arose and she was bed ridden the rest of her pregnancy. At 32 weeks she went in for her appointment and told the doc that the baby had moved into a head down position. the doc laughed at her and said that even though the baby's weight was low she was healthy and she probably was just moving around. When scanned the doc gasped and confirmed that the baby had moved head down but didn't seem to worry too much. a few days later her water broke again and she was admitted ti the hospital started a new round of antibiotics and the baby was born that day at just over 32 weeks at 3lbs.
Aside from a slight trouble breathing and eating due to underdeveloped muscles and lungs the baby was very healthy. As per hospital protocol the baby stayed in the NICU (Newborn Intensive Care Unit) until her due date. Now she is a very healthy but small 6 month old baby girl with a very happy mom, dad, and siblings.
This may not be the case with all preterm labor and water leakage, however I hope it may give some a sense of hope and ease some minds.
This truly was a miracle baby and after going through this and doing some research I have found several other stories as this that have happened in the last few years. This just goes to prove the resilience of babies, the progress being made with medical sciences, and the power of faith.
