How did you take the news that you can only get pregnant by IVF?

Amanda- I tried for almost 3 years. The docs could only come up with endo as a diagnosis. I wish they had told me two years ago that IVF would be the only way to go. Instead, I went through 2 years of hell just to wind up doing IVF- Twice!

I know it can sound devasting, especially if you cannot afford it, but I would rather save my money for two years than to spend thousands of dollars doing meds and IUIs and still have to fork over the money for IVF.

You maybe saving yourself a lot of grief and money by knowing now. My DH and I decided to give ourselves three shots of IVF, and if in that time it didn't work, we wouldn't stress ourselves anymore. We would adopt.

Good luck!! I believe it is a blessing in disguise :)

Hi
I wanted to reply to this post. I haven't been on these forums for a couple of years. I used to post regularly when we found out we were pregnant - by accident but overjoyed - only to miscarry with a multiple pregnancy 11 weeks later. We were lucky enough to fall pregnant again quite quickly but ended up miscarrying 2 x more times. I stupidly thought it was my right to have a baby...
Fast forward 1 year and the Drs finally did some tests and found I had very high FSH (28/29) and very low AMH (0.71) and no chance of a natural birth or even an IVF birth. Our only option was donor egg IVF. Naturally we were devastated and my partner could not get his head round the donor option so after a while I gave up all hope.

However - another fast forward 2 more years and we have just come back from the Lister clinic where we have had tests and appointments for hours and hours today to start a donor egg program. When I say start the programme - I mean literally start it by putting our name on a waiting list. It may never happen and it may take years but it has been a very long tough journey so far and I just wanted to say good luck to anyone going through any type of difficult IVF option.
IVF may be the only option for some and as some people have said on this thread - it is a gift that only a few years ago might not have been available. It is a scary decision whether it is standard IVF or donor gamete IVF - I don't think anyone ever would wish to go down that route if another option was available but - wow - what a life changing decision it could be if it works. I'm rambling now! so better sign off but best of luck to all of you
Billy x
