Ok so OH and I are NTNP this month but I really don't want it to take forever for me to get pregnant.

So IF i have a next cycle I want to try OPK's. How do these things work? I mean I get the fact that you POAS, but other than that I am lost! oh and also what brand should I buy? Are the cheapies a good indicator or should I shell out some more $$ and get better tests??

Hopefully I won't need them but it never hurts to be prepared :)

I've got all dejected waiting for AF to show up (she's late, as usual - with no BFP) so i just ordered 30 OPKs and 10 early HPTs from ebay for £3.79 :O haha.. A lot of the girls on here swear by 'internet cheapies' as they're known so i've ordered them just to see if i actually ovulate next month.

Not sure how they work yet but they come with instructions! :)

I ordered my opk's off https://www.early-pregnancy-tests.com/ You can get them for super cheap! Especially if you order a lot. I ordered 20 for .90 each and got free shipping. What I did was started on CD10 and used one a day. I read in Taking Charge of Your Fertility the best time is around 3pm. Or anywhere between 12-8pm Then when I started to see a faint line I started taking them twice a day. One at 1pm and the other at 6pm just to make sure I didn't miss my surge. This is my 1st time using them and I've had faint lines 2 days in a row, just hoping it gets darker soon! Few ladies on here have mentioned they got there :bfp: and never had a pos opk.

GL!!

Oh and the instructions will tell you when to start depending on your cycle lengh. I have 36 day cycles. So my date to start should've been CD19 but I wanted to start early just to make sure I didn't miss the surge.

I get mine from www.early-pregnancy-tests.com too. I get the conception pack with 50 opks and like 20 hpts for $30! Free first class shipping if you spend $15+!

OPKs detect LH. You get a LH surge right before ovulation. LH is usually in your system all the time so some women get faint lines everyday. For an OPK to be considered positive, it has to be as dark or darker than the control line. However for me, my positives are usually a touch lighter than the control line. I guess I have a weak surge? IDK. I chart so that's how I know I ovulated. It's best to do BBT charting with OPKs because sometimes you can have a random LH surge/positive opk and not actually ovulate. It happens when your body tries to ovulate and fails, but then tries again some days later. Also you can get a surge right before AF. If you're regular, you really don't need to chart.. but if you're not and you have a long cycle, it's best to use OPKs and BBT together just to confirm. Usually women with longer cycles have more than one surge.

Hope I helped :flower: xx

Thanks! It helped alot. Unfortunately Oh and I had a conversation last night and he basically told me that he did not want me to do any kind of tests that would tell me if or when I OV. He said something about not wanting it to feel like we were on a "time frame" and I was demanding him to perform. We do :sex: alot so it may not be an issue IF my cycles are regular as I can time them around certain days that I am possibly OVIng.. This is my first cycle off BCP so I have no idea how long it will be. But I did tell him that if I was not pregnant in like 6 months then I was going to do it and he said that was fine :)

So basically it looks like no OPKS for me, unless I hide them from him :haha:

I'd do them anyways. Explain to him that your cycle may be crazy so you just want to do it so you know what's going on. If you don't you will end up driving yourself nuts. My cycles off BCP were crazy after the first cycle. One was 68 days long  Hopefully he'll agree then, if not I'd still do it on the DL ;) It's best figuring out how your cycles work. xx

This was my 1st time using opk's and I have no idea what they are trying to do to me! I got a faint line 2 days in a row on CD 19 and CD20 testing twice a day..but now nothing..

i used them first time last cycle (first off BCP) got a bunch of cheapies off amazon, both LH strips & the pregnancy strips... we're NTNP, but I wouldnt tell hubby I'm being a nut & getting test strips :haha: but I'm too curious as of when I'm Ovulating to not get the strips!

I have a question about the opk's....can you still get the faint positive even after you "O"???? I think I might have started a little late on my testing.

If by faint positive, you mean faint line, then yes. If you mean almost positive, then I'd BD just in case & keep taking OPKs

I usually get a faint/ not actual + most of the time.. only time I don't get a line at all is closer to beginning & after AF.. it gets darker & darker leading toward when I O :)
