I only found out yesterday that I'm pregnant. This is a total shock as we were going to wait another year or so. First time around I did everything by the book and that was relatively hard! Now with a one year old that doesn't sleep through the night still and a full time job, I seriously don't know how I'm going to get through this, without caffeine especially!

It is so much harder with a toddler around! I've been exhausted for weeks now!!! Just try and get any extra minute of sleep you can and sleep as you'll need it.
Good luck hun!

Ughhh, I feel your pain. I have a 10 month old and am 10 weeks pregnant... All I wanna do is sleep. All my baby wants to do is play. All we both do is cry. lol...

Anyway, don't suddenly stop drinking caffeine - slowly wean yourself off of it. To abruptly stop anything that your body is depending on is a big shock to your system and thus to your baby. So still have caffeine, just less. If you can stop depending on caffeine completely, great! If not, at least drink under 200 mg of caffeine each day... That's about a 12 oz cup of regular coffee. If you're drinking a soft drink, find out how much caffeine is in it and get well under 200 mg. Remember that some other things have caffeine in them too, like chocolate and some pain relievers. Just do your research and make sure you're drinking a safe amount.

You can reduce caffeine without cutting it out completely! Unfortunately a side effect of pregnancy for menus aversion to coffee, bit once that goes away in the second trimester, I have a couple cups of regular coffee a day, and my doc has no issues with that.

I've read that a little bit of caffeine is OK. If you want to avoid it that is a personal choice, but a small coffee or a soft drink should be fine. I totally understand it being necessary as I have a very active two year old. I haven't drank cokes on a regular basis in almost a year, but now that I am pregnant there are just days that I need a little pick me up. I've tried napping, but my dd tells me "no sleeping, mommy". Diet coke to the rescue! I drank it while pregnant with my dd almost every day as I had a very demanding job and it was the only way to stay awake. She turned out fine so if you need it, just go for it in moderation.

I found out I was pregnant on Sunday... total shock! I am still trying to get myself excited as we are totally not ready for another baby. My son will be one on Sunday! I think I remember you from the boards last time around! I was due November 7th but he was two weeks late! I am sitting here typing drinking a coffee at work... it has not totally hit me yet that I need to stop coffee, soft cheeses, deli meat, WINE... AAAHHHHHH.... I am sure everyone is a little more relaxed the second time around.

Thank you for all the nice replies. Yeah I think I will allow myself a little coffee then try to stop all together. I'm a coffee addict so this is brutal!!

I remember you too! Isn't it just insane when you're not expecting it?? I'm so overwhelmed. And yeah I can't believe I'm doing it all over again. No deli meat is also a killer for me!! I agree about being relaxed the 2nd time around. I was a nervous wreck the 1st time, now I'm just in a daze lol Like really, I'm back here again? It's a blessing of course but just so shocking and unexpected!

Up to 200mg of caffeine a day is perfectly safe! There is no need to cut out caffeine. It seems only US doctors give out this advice xx
