How do you keep the motivation to take folic acid?

9 months of TTC baby 2 and I'm struggling to find the motivation to keep taking folic acid. I just can't see it happening for me.

after 3 yrs i stopped taking it now i just take it during ivf cycles, its a daily reminder of what i dont have otherwise

I don't take it. I will on occasion take a regular multivitamin, but I am not going to take anything extra when my doc has said that my chances are so low for conceiving that I should just stop ttc.

If I was doing IVF, I would take it. I did take it for my 4 IUIs, but stopped each time with AF.

i have been taking it for years and years and I just keep doing so. I figure that it can't hurt me so I just take it like I would any other vitamin and try not to think about it when I take it.

I started out taking pre-natals. Then my OB told me not to bother and just take a multivitamin and folic acid. But since our TTC is going nowhere currently... I haven't taken anything in months. Occasionally I'll pop my multivitamin, but I agree about it being a daily reminder. That being said, I have continued to improve my eating habits and I think I'm getting more vits from food now anyway.

I think folic acid stores take awhile to build up so, I take mine. I take a 5 mg, as have celiac disease. Also a bunch of other vits, prenatal, b complex etc. Well I tend to alternate one day a b complex another with the 5 mg. I have celiac disease, so figure it is good for me anyway and I do not want to become deficient and then harm my fertility further. Even for women without celiac or other absorption issues, you should be on a prenatal whilst tcc, not just once you become pregnant. For me it is fine to keep taking. I suppose once I hit menopause, I may drop the five mg and stick to b complex:flower:

After ttc 2 years and taking clomid that didn't work I got annoyed with taking so many pills and stopped taking all vitamins and folic acid. I got pregnant that month! I had my 12 week scan yesterday and baby is perfect so don't stress too much if you don't take them. Plenty of non-lttcrs never take them before they conceive and babies are fine. Lots of luck ladies.

I'd just gotten to the point that I only took my prenatal and B50 complex (my LP is crap without it) during the TWW. Stopped taking the DHA supplement though as it was more expensive and I didn't see the point (and I bought some nasty chewable ones that were on sale and couldn't stand them).

This cycle, not only did I drink wine at about 7dpo (and I NEVER drink!), but I only took the B complex for most of my TWW because I went out of town and forgot my vitamins. So I just bought another bottle of B complex and waited until I got home to start up the prenatals again. After my BFP I've started with the DHA again too... hopefully I'll get through this last box of chewables soon.

Like mjemma said, plenty of people don't take vitamins before they get pregnant and everything is fine. Even if you give AF week off of taking them, sometimes a short break can be refreshing!

I'm in such a habit of taking them now I don't even think about it or what it is for.

I ran out a couple of months go and haven't bought anymore - our local tesco has decided to stop selling their regular bog standard folic acid and replaced it with a multi vitamin for pregnant women, so I refused to buy it...

Even if we're not pregnant a prenatal with folic acid and DHA is still great for your health! My hair and nails look better so that is my motivation!
