How many hours a day does your newborn sleep?

My LO is 6 days old and he sleep a lot! He is my second baby and I am aware that they sleep a lot, but he literally sleeps 22-23 hours each day, waking only for feeds and 5 mins of open eye time!! My first son probably slept around 18 hours so I may just be used to that, but does anyone else's newborn sleep this much?

Mine is 9days old and sleeps all day, only waking for feeds (even though today she slept for 5 hours straight and I had to wake her) And is then up most of the night. I know they sleep a lot but I have no idea how much.

4 hours tops!!! seriously! screamed all the time.

i find it incredible how many hrs babies usually sleep.

Mine is 16 days old now and sleeps between 18-22hrs a day. Depends how fussy she is being. She sleeps more in the actual daytime too. Most of her waking hrs are at night unfortunately!!!

My lo slept like 23-23.5 hrs a day the first 3 weeks or so, it really had me worried. Everywhere I read said it should be more like 18 hrs! She turned out just fine though She doesn't sleep much at all during the day now.

She slept a lot and has only recently started being awake more. However she's still asleep pretty much all day and STTN 12pm-7pm. lol. Lazy thing she is!

Wow that's great. I live in hope that this bodes well for a baby that STTN as my son didn't until he was 10 months old. It's justa shame though as I love it when he does wake up and I get to see his little face properly!

my LO is only 2 days old and i am soooooo glad i have seen this thread i was worried he is sleeping too much he literally only wakes for feeds and sometimes that can be 4/5 hrs inbetween people have kept telling me i should love it and i am one of the lucky ones but doesnt stop you worrying does it???

Aww. I am very lucky. It's just the day she's a pain. She sleeps a lot but disturbs a lot also and sometimes won't nod back off so it makes her fussy. It's then hard to settle her again. But at night once she's asleep she sleeps through. Started about a week ago

You're all so lucky, I reckon my LO gets 12 hours on a good day! That includes day and night.

i dont have a sleepy baby either, 12 hrs at the most in 24 hrs

When my daughter was tiny she slept 23 out of 24 hours, I swear. I had to wake her to eat. Now she's a little ball of energy.
