My 9 and a half week old is still having 4oz bottles. He has 5 a day so only 20oz a day. He does usually finish his bottles but when I make them up to 5 he either still has 4 or has all 5 but then won't take his milk at the next bottle. He eats every 4 hours.

Also he is always sick, even 4 hours after the last feed. If he does have 5 oz then he can be really sick, where it seems to pour out of him, even 4 hours later, so I'm not sure if 5oz is even a good idea!

HI hun, does he get sick after every feed? It might be reflux.

Mine used to take 4 oz every 4 hours at your Lo's age & his average was 18-20 oz. It never affetced his weight gain. His maximum was 24 oz at 4 months. He was also a sicky baby & we had to use Anti reflux/stay down formula with Dr. browns bottle to control his throwing up. We went up to 5 oz at 12 weeks when he started to sleep through for 12 hrs at night with no feeds, so he was still taking 20 oz.

Our posts crossed over there! Thankyou for replying! I am certain it is reflux, but no one will do anything to help because he is not in pain and he gains weight well, up til now at least. I'm getting him weighed tomorrow so hopefully it will still be ok.

He is sick after every feed, up to 4 hours later sometimes. We sit him up after feeds which stops the projectile vomiting but not the constant leak coming out of his mouth. Sometimes it pours out of him.

Anyway thanks for reassuring me that 20oz a day is ok xx

Mine wasnt in pain because of his reflux, & his weight gain was also not affected. A thicker formula really helps to control it but it wasnt a magical cure. I think babies with reflux either take too much or too little.

That may explain why he takes too little then. A HV sort of suggested aptimal stay down formula but when I said I was on cow and gate she said they didn't recommend changing brands, so I never did.

I changed brands 4 times until we settled with Aptamil AR at 8 weeks. xx

And did you not have any problems? Did a thicker formula affect his weight gain? I've heard it can. Do you recommend changing then? What is the AR type of Aptimal?

Sorry for all the questions!

AR is anti reflux so it should be the same as the stay down. Some formulas gave him constipation, other gases, green poo etc. Aptamil solved all those in addtion in helping with his reflux as he started to spit most of the time instead of projectile vomitting, but he also had some bad times. HTH hun xx

Thank you, I want to try something different but am a bit scared that I may make things worse!

My little lady is 11 weeks now and for the past few weeks has been having 5 6oz bottles of sma white, but the last few days she has missed a bottle. So for the first time I have made 4 7oz bottles up so I am gonna see how she goes. The reason 4 is we cannot cram anymore in. Here is our schedule, 08:00, Macy wakes, 12:00, 16:00 and the 7:30-8:00pm bedtime. I dont see how I can fit another one in as she is such a good sleeper. I cant see her waiting to be weaned until 6 months at this rate!!

My son is nearly 10 weeks old and takes 9ozs every bottle, and sometimes looks for more lol. He usually takes around 5 bottles per day..depending on how many naps/sleeps he has. Have you spoken to your hv/doc as it may be reflux. But they will prob say he is fine if he is gaining weight.

How much does your little one weigh?

As a good guide your baby should be getting about 2 floz per Lb they weigh each day.

I.e 20 floz a day would be spot on if he weighs 10Lb.

He weighs 12lb 3oz. He has always put on weight well, which is why I haven't worried before, but the older he gets the more it worries me. They are all different though I suppose aren't they!

My baby is just over 10 weeks old, and we JUST (like, yesterday) moved her up to 5 oz at a time, rather than 4. Sometimes she doesn't finish it though, and occasionally she'll drain it and want more. She's all over the place! She weighs just under 12 pounds, and is gaining properly. She also has reflux, so spits up a lot during and after feeds. The doctor won't treat her for it because they only treat if it's "severe" and she's not classed as "severe". It's a challenge, for sure.
There is no set amount a baby should eat based on their age, size, etc. Every baby is different. The baby dictates how much they will eat in a day, not their weight, if you know what I mean.

I obviously have a guzzler:winkwink:

She gets 50/50 EBM/FF. I make up 4 oz bottles during the day and 5 oz in the night. She allways leaves approx an ounce/half ounce during the day. She feeds approx every 1.5 to 2 hr during the day and gets through approx 30 to 35oz a day. She is 8 and 1/2 weeks and weighs 11lb. GP said she was fine.

Noah is 9 weeks tomorrow and drinks 7oz's 3 times a day and a 9oz bottle before bed

08.00 wake up and feed, then 12.00pm and 4.00pm then 7.30pm bath and 9oz bottle then bed ( i give him 4 ounces of his bottle before bath otherwise he gets to hungry and screams when getting ready after bath)

He has been weighed today and is 12lb 11oz putting on approx 1lb a fortnight up to now

My lo is 9 weeks tomorrow and we've just upped his bottles to 7oz, he has 5 a day. Sometimes he'll only drink 5 or 6 but other times will drain all 7! He weighs 10lb 9 now, was 6lb 14 born x

My DD is almost 11 weeks and takes between 4 and 6 oz of SMA high energy every 4 hours (but sleeps through the night). Had her weighed today and she is 12lb 8oz :flower: xxxx
