How many rounds of ivf have you been through?

I am a few months away from my first ivf.

I know the data says that it often takes more than 1 round to get a bfp. I was wondering how many rounds it took you to get a bfp or how many rounds you have done at this point?

I have been reading a lot about how many rounds to go and dh and I have been discussing how many rounds before we would go for adoption. As hopeful as I would like to be, I would also like to be as realistic as possible as well.

Thank you everyone for your support.

Hi Hun - hate to be the first with bad news but I have had two failed cycles now - I have unexplained infertility - and whilst IVF's have always gone OK - no BFP as yet.
We are having a third go around March time - using ICSi this time and a different protocol - but this is our last chance.

We get three goes on the NHS so we decided that we would take all three and then look at adoption rather than carrying on and paying for it ourselves.

there are so many women on this forum though hun who make it first time - so crossing everything that it works for you first time too sweets.

Hey chic, i too echo beckic, i have had 1 unsuccessful ICSI cycle and 1 unsuccessful FEt (frozen embryo transfer)

This is both good and bad to hear but worth knowing : Average IVF / ICSI attempts to success in UK is 3! That means many get preggers first time and many dont get preggers for 5+ times but 60% of all couples going through IVF DO go home with a child. You also have to remember that that statistic includes women older than 40 who unfortunately have a lot lower chance of pregnancy. This statistic is also ONLY for FRESH cycles and does nto include FET so it is enitrely possible to have 3 freash and 3 FET cycles and get your BFP and still be classed as MISS average :)

Heres to a first time success for you hun but stay realistic too :) xx

Thanks for your responses bekic and chocci. We don't get any free rounds here in canada so if we did 3 fresh cycles it would cost us a minimum of $30,000 which is quite expensive so it is really hard to get my head around how much we will have to spend before we get a lo.

thanks again.

Its so unfair Blue :( I only got 1 here too where as many get 3 goes. We are now paying too. BUT at teh end of the day it will be worth it, whats money eh if you cant create a life with it :) xxxx

I totally agree that the money will be worth it. Dh and I have decided that 3 fresh cycles is the most we will go for (and fet if possible). But then I know international adoption is very expensive too so that worries me a bit.

Hi hun

We were SOOOOOO lucky in that our first ICSI was successful and I count my blessing every day for it.

Good luck
xx

I cant believe you have to pay for adoption, thats IS ABSOLUTLEY crazy when there are so many children out there who need a family. I am sure it is free in UK but can take a long time here :) Good luck hun, I dont believe you will need to go that route anyway :) xx

Hi
I'm going to be starting my first go in feb. We are paying 4k as don't get a go on the nhs as I have one child already concieved naturally sowe are no longer eligable. To be honest I am shitting it. Whilst it's great having the hope of ivf working actually doing it and facing the failure is terrifying. With or without the money I'm not sure how Kant rounds I could do. At the moment I would do the first one and if possible a FET after that. I think I am more scared of miscarriage then anything as I've had 3 in total plus one ectopic. But hey who dares wins so I will try and be brave

just thought i would add my stats! not that they are anything hopeful

In total my DH and I have done 15 IVF cycles, 5 stims and 10 FET's during this time we have lost 6 pg and am currently 8 weeks with number 7. I have however been spotting since 4 weeks. the wait is horrid

GL with your cycle and i hope it only takes the one for you

Hi Sweetie, I'm one of the lucky ones that got a BFP on our first ICSI round of IVF. I feel blessed after all these years to have something go our way. So it does happen hun, first round success is a possibility

xox

Good luck hun.....we're keeping a seat warm for you over in first tri...see you soon :hugs:

I too am one of the lucky ones that got a BFP with twins 1st round of IVF.

In saying this my only infertiltiy issue is blocked damaged tubes, everything else is in perfect health.

Good luck hun, I hope you get your BFP 1st round also.

Hi hun

Congrats with your pregnancy and with number 7 on board. I hope the spotting eases and its all ok. Can I ask you a question, does it get any easier as you go through each cycle? Do you do things different?

we have tried so many different things each time if only so that emotionally i feel like we are trying something new.

I had both my tubes removed after sever damage (but was told to try IVF first) and it seems that that was the main problem as the fluid in my infected tubes was washing my pg away, we removed them around IVF cycle 10. since them i have also been treated for NK cells and clotting not that my BT indicate that i need either.

Thanks smootch for sharing - I haven't found anyone else yet whose tubes were filled with the "killer" fluid. Mine are and I am going to be having them removed (or one removed and the other clamped) soon before we begin ivf.

Thanks for sharing and congratulations on your blessing. Fingers crossed for you.
:hugs2:

Blue

how do you know that your tubes were filled with fluid? i have inflamed tubes just wondering if mine could be filled with fluid that could affect IVF

thanks

Apparently from my ultrasound they saw that my one tube was inflamed and fluid filled and blocked at the top. Then I had an hsg which confirmed that it is inflamed and fluid filled and blocked at the top ------ my fs said it is called a hydrosalpinx tube. Apparently this fluid kills eggs, embryos etc. Research it if you want. Everything I have read is that ivf success rates are significantly reduced which is why my fs immediately recommended my tube be removed. She would like the other tube to be removed or clamped although the other one doesn't show up as blocked, inflamed, or fluid filled because it could be in the early stages of the same issue as the other tube and the little finger things in the tube are likely destroyed. The fluid from one tube often travels to the other tube and fills the uterus washing out the eggs and embryos. My fs said that often people just find out that their tubes are blocked and not why and then even ivf doesnt work or you end up with early mc because of this fluid.

Best wishes muncho and hopefully this isn't the case for you. :hugs:

Thanks blue, my tube is also inflamed. i had my hsg last week there was no mention of this fluid. I will call and ask her. I did tell her i was having ivf but she didnt seem concerned

thanks that was very helpful

Well we are due to start our forst round of ICSI this spring. Wwe get 3 goes and FET too. Me and DH have decided we will carry on havin git untl we get a BFP. We could afoord one cycle a year after our 3 free goes so if Im not preg by then we'll just keep at it. But thats me saying it, I dont know how I would feel after 3 failed rounds so we'll wait and see. Hopefully wont get to that stage but thats what we want. We want our own baby so much.
