How many weeks before EDD are you leaving work?

I am leaving 3 weeks before my EDD, although I may make it 4 weeks.

I plan on leaving about 4 week before due date. Although I might make it 5 weeks as I'm due 6th Feb so 5 weeks would take me to end of my Christmas holidays which means I'd be knocking off round about 22nd Dec which would be brilliant.

I went of 2 mths early with my daughter and the time was brilliant. It was hard at the other end though, having to leave LO at 7 months to go back to work.

Peyre - you can't claim jsa if you quit for 3 months, only if you're fired can you sign on straight away. Unfortunately the ex oh is kicking me out on 9th October, so I'm going to have nowhere to live either. I really don't know what I'm going to do!! Thank you though x

I plan on leaving my job (and not going back) around 20-24 weeks. I work at a humane society, with the dogs and getting tugged around, jumped on and being on my feet all day just doesn't seem good for pregnancy. Not to mention winter is on the way and the back dog run (where the dogs go 4x per day to go potty) gets covered in ice/pee and get's really slick! My co-worker just delivered her baby last week, she was doing my job previous to having her baby and everything was just fine for her, but still... I don't want to risk it.

Excuse me, but you are wrong...If you leave/are not fired, a decission maker will penalise you with hardship payments (JSA-20% = £53/week) since a pregnant woman is considered vulnerable. You will get that until 14 week b4 EDD, that you will get MA for 39 weeks.

I understand, though, that you don't want/feel right about claimin JSA. Also, it's not much money to count on...

Your case is quite.....how to say?? Special?? You should seek advice. Once your ex kicks you out, you will become homeless (can you go back home dad/mum?, because I've read u said other thread your council can not help you until u r 8 months pregnant) I think you "deserve" to be signed off from work in your circumstances, then you can get IS/no need to sign on.

Apart that your local CAB, there are other orgs. where you can get advice. Pls, give them a ring/browse their pages

Your situation must be more than stressful and depressing...

Any arrangements with ex? Is he gonna help you, or does he "pass" completely? (don't have to tell me/us...I understand its private)

I'm planning to leave 5 weeks before, I work for my local council and we close for 2 weeks over Christmas and new year, so I plan to finish, have that 2 weeks then a weeks holiday before maternity leave starts.

I'm hoping not to go back til after baby is born (I'm off sick with bad pelvic pain) xx

I'm a nursing student, and once this placement is over, I've only got theory units until the end of February next year. I'm hoping to stay in Uni up until then, so I'd be stopping about a week and a half before my due date.

Im due on the 11th of March, and have two weeks holiday to take before I go so will finish at 34 weeks and then two weeks holidays so maternity wont be starting until 36 weeks anyway.. thats the plan! xx

Peyre - that's so dishonest! How could anyone "pretend" to sign on?! That is not what it's therefore, pregnant or not!

I am planning on leaving 3.5 weeks before. I'm also a teacher and am going back for one week after half term. Hope I manage it!

I often joke that I will give birth on the floor at work. I run 3 restaurants, and I don't get paid maternity leave, all I get is 6 weeks unpaid. So I want to spend as much time with my baby as I can, therefore I plan on working up until I go into labor, whether that be at work or not! :)

I'm a teacher too and am going on maternity leave at 34 weeks. I would have been tempted to keep going for a little bit longer but so many other members of staff who've had babies in the past have all said they ended up going off earlier as it was just too tiring, so I've heeded their words.
However, we've got a lovely head and should I need/want to finish any sooner or later, I know it can be arranged without the official 28 days notice as all HR is taken care of in house.

Its my first too and had no clue about how id feel etc so iv got 12 days holiday left too take which for me equals too about 3 and half weeks off, so iv decided to book it from the end of november,so by the time my maternity leave actually starts will be 5 days before the due date, wanted to hang on as long as I could so get longer when babys actually here, but figure if im struggling il just go early, u can change ur maternity leave date. xx

Just been reading all the documents, I can change my mind about leaving/returning date as long as I give 28 days notice!! Which seems odd to me because you might not get 28 days warning of how you'll feel lol, ugh.

Hi hun I was originally planning to leave about 6 weeks before EDD but have developed SPD and really struggled working. My work basically agreed without any notice that I could start my maternity leave early even though they also request 28 days notice. It depends how good your employers are, mine have been fab. No reason why you cant have a plan in mind but you never know how you will feel or what could develop so you might need to go with the flow! xxx:flower:

Pleaseeee, don't get indignant...I've told her (refer to my post) textually (I've just cut+paste) the following: "However, if on JSA, you have to "pretend" to be available for work and sign on every 2 weeks or really look for another job in your hometown..."

I said "pretend" because if she really really really looks for another job, I doubt she will be able to find an employer, in the UK or beyond, that will employ her being 15 weeks pregnant. She will have to hide her pregnancy to the new employer, which won't be very honest either, would it be?? Besides, her pregnancy will become obvious (the bump) in only 3 or 4 weeks...

There are more dishonest things in life...and I thing the girl's situation is really special (pregnant and dumped, becoming homeless, feeling very ill but GP doesn't sign her off, only 23, etc)

And anyway...do you have any better idea/any way you can help/not judge?

With DD my last day was when I was 37+2. I went into labour when I was 37+5 and had her at 37+6! So essentially last day was a Sat and I had her on the Wed. I had 2 days of mat leave then labour started!

But I liked the fact that I wasnt sat around waiting! And I got 9 months and 2 weeks maternity leave with her!

With this LO I am leaving at 36 weeks :flower:

I'm due on 13 Feb and leaving work on 23 December! I have 2 weeks off for christmas then i'm taking 4 weeks hols in January so my maternity leave doesn't technically start until 38 weeks. Quite glad since I then dont HAVE to go back until Feb 2013! (although will probably go back in November next year :) )

I'm leaving at the beginning of November but not due until mid Feb. Have 6 weeks holiday to take first (or 8, still waiting for HR to tell me how they handle statutory/customary leave) but will still be starting ML pretty early. It's easier for me as I know I won't be going back - we're moving to the other side of the country.

I'm leaving at 30 weeks because to be quite frank my work place isn't suitable or safe for a pregnant woman.

Roll on Mat leave woohoo!!! xxxx

Wow, a lot of you are very lucky! I am planning on working up until 1-2 weeks before my EDD . . . would like to have more time with LO once she is here and time I take off prior to delivery will take away from what we can afford for me being off work. I have no pd vacation and 70% pd 6 weeks maternity leave . . . hoping to have 8-12 weeks off with baby and use our savings $, so any time before she is born I take off will cut into maternity leave.

I have very bad round ligament pain and struggle getting through the work day already, so am not looking forward to it, but will work as long as possible.

"please don't get indignant"
pmsl..... oh that made me giggle..... How condescending!
