How many weeks before EDD are you leaving work?

Woah.... Ok.

Not even going to go into it!

Lexi, I really hope you get something sorted hun xxx

I too worry about wanting to leave earlier than what I've said.. But I do think that my head teacher will be understanding if I want to leave earlier.. He was very good during the IVF.

Being induced around 6th of Feb so will be leaving week after the Christmas hols IF I last that long. SO tired and stressed......

... I'd love to leave as early as some of you girls but I will get some form of payment from employer / smp for 9 months then I can take 3 months unpaid... So I want to spend all those nine months with my baby... I'll have probably three weeks leave to add on at the end so that'll be a bonus....
So if I go into labour at work then so be it...! Bleugh! :&

I think i will be leaving 4 or 5 weeks early. needs to get sorted out soon. I did want to stay right up until the end so i would get more time off with LO, but I've already been signed off work for 2 weeks with Syphysis pubis pain and stress.

I am very lucky that I do not have to go back to work at all after baby is born as my OH has an excellent salary so I am going to be a sahm for a while... therefore, I can afford the time to start my leave at 29 weeks which is in 6 and a half weeks. I also have 2 weeks hols left to take so it looks like I only have around 4.5 weeks left to work altogether whooooo ^_^

im planning on only having only a week off beforehand. i guess that my baby being a first will probably be a few days late anyway.

i have an office job so i dont think it will be too stressful and want to save as much time for once the baby arrives.

I'm due on 9th January and will be finishing on 2nd December - originally I'd planned to work up until the 23rd December but when I said that to my midwife she just laughed! My job isn't particularly stressful, I just work in an office. But she said by that time I'll be so huge I won't be able to sit at my desk properly, never mind having to haul myself into the car and walk (slip!) around in the ice and the snow (we're in Scotland - got minus 20 last year!) and having to come home in the pitch black, and having to actually concentrate on work on top of all that! My office is also up a steep flight of stairs and the toilet is downstairs, so that would be a struggle too. So I'm taking her advice and finishing earlier - she's the expert!

I dont get paid maternity leave and make minimum wage and my OH just got a job and we are trying to save for a place to live its super hard so i am working up until i have the baby hopefully if my health permits and going back as soon as i have too i want a lot of time but donthink ill get it

I havent made the decision yet but I hadn't been planning on leaving work much before my EDD (1/31). I get 3 months of leave and i want all of that to be once the baby's here, so I might only take a few days before my EDD. Unless for some reason I go a little earlier, in which case i'll just call in and tell them "hey, see you in 3 months!"

With DD my last day was when I was 37+2. I went into labour when I was 37+5 and had her at 37+6! So essentially last day was a Sat and I had her on the Wed. I had 2 days of mat leave then labour started!

But I liked the fact that I wasnt sat around waiting! And I got 9 months and 2 weeks maternity leave with her!

With this LO I am leaving at 36 weeks :flower:

That's so much better than in the states! I am just flat out quitting my job (since it doesn't pay diddly and won't cover daycare expenses) but my co-worker who just had her baby last week only gets SIX WEEKS of maternity leave (and she's been with us for 11 years!) :(

I'm leaving at 36+2. Mat leave starts at 37+6 after Feb half term. Last time I tried to work till 38 weeks but ended up going at 36 weeks as I was so knackered. Im a teacher too & def didn't give 28 days notice for that!

I always feel sorry for the American ladies reading these threads - you guys have a hard deal. Us UK women should be very thankful for how lucky we are!

:)

It will just depend on a lot of things. I'm due in February but at the rate I'm going I will be lucky to carry this little guy till mid or late January. Hoping my OH can get a good paying job really soon so I can take off mid December, and just stay home for the first year with my son. Hoping thats how it works, if not I will have to play it by ear, and just see how it goes.

I can only afford to take 6-7 weeks off, so I intend to work up until the day before my section so I get as much time at home as possible. I'll probably drop down to working one day a week from home later on though (if they agree)!

I only get 6 weeks at 90% pay and I'm in the UK plus we get upto a year SMP but that is peanuts. I'll be leaving 2 weeks after Christmas and back at work in the June.

Teacher here also, I am taking 8 weeks off, EDD on 29th Feb and will finish work at the beginning of Jan, so I will be about 32 weeks by then.

 Just counting down the days.

I am taking two weeks holiday before i start maternity, i don't fancy being cooped up in the flat by myself for that long.

I am saving my holiday so I can take 4 weeks off before due date and then start maternity leave the week im due.

Cant wait!!

Its my first too and had no clue about how id feel etc so iv got 12 days holiday left too take which for me equals too about 3 and half weeks off, so iv decided to book it from the end of november,so by the time my maternity leave actually starts will be 5 days before the due date, wanted to hang on as long as I could so get longer when babys actually here, but figure if im struggling il just go early, u can change ur maternity leave date. xx

Just been reading all the documents, I can change my mind about leaving/returning date as long as I give 28 days notice!! Which seems odd to me because you might not get 28 days warning of how you'll feel lol, ugh.

Hi hun I was originally planning to leave about 6 weeks before EDD but have developed SPD and really struggled working. My work basically agreed without any notice that I could start my maternity leave early even though they also request 28 days notice. It depends how good your employers are, mine have been fab. No reason why you cant have a plan in mind but you never know how you will feel or what could develop so you might need to go with the flow! xxx:flower:

Of course thet were obliging! With spd you should have been signed off sick until you hit 36 weeks. I was signed off at 32 weeks with spd and the mat leave started at 36 weeks so didn't affect my mat leave and sick pay was full pay
