Hi

Just wondering how much formula your babies are fed

Noah was 3 weeks on Wednesday so now just over and he is draining his 4oz bottles, I have started putting a little extra in (4 1/2) and he is draining that to

He feeds every 4 hours and used to feed 5 hours at night but this has gone back to 4

I am wanting to put him onto 5oz but thats for a 2-4 month old according to SMA tin

He is not throwing any back up so not being greedy and he now weighs 9lb 10oz

Should I put him onto 5oz?? just dont want to end up making him fat

xx

yeah make it up to 5oz. Btw, how do you make 1/2oz? Just make it up to 5. Guidelines are just that GUIDElines. My LO is nearly 6months and has the guideline amount for a 2month old. Its almost impossible to overfeed a baby because they will puke it up otherwise x btw, your not gunna make him fat

i have a greedy little one too! our pediatrician said when they are draining the bottle to increase by a half ounce. they will spit it up if it is too much and you will know what to do then.owen just made 4 weeks yesterday and was doing the 4oz bit from literally week one. we have increased to 5.5ozs but i think it might be a little much as he spit up twice last night and normally never does.

I just make the water up to 4 and half and put half a scoop extra in. Yeah I thought as much with the guidelines as someone has said that until a baby is a certain age they will only eat until they are full anyway
He doesnt spit any up so will go to 5oz, Thanks xx

Thanks Amanda that helps a lot, so already gone up half and ounce to 4 1/2 like I said and he is still draining that, just gonna go ahead and put him on 5oz then

lol it would take more effort to make up an extra half an oz than to just stick an extra oz in i wouldnt be able to measure it out correctly! X

Ryan is 2 months old and is taking 7oz every 2/3 hours he is quite happy taking that

I know I think in the midst of my ever lurking baby brains I thought my newborn would be so clever that he would see the left over milk in the bottle if I was giving him to much and want the rest even though he was full lmao

My LO was 4 weeks yesterday and she has happily been taking 5oz every 3-4hours for over a week now. She does drain the bottle but if I make any more she refuses it lol she must know her exact limit. My HV is shit and hasn't been near us in 2 weeks so dont know her weight but she's def gaining so I'm happy. Just give bubs as much as they will accept whenever they want.

LO will take as much as they need.

If they are finishing the bottle I would up it by an oz and see how it goes.

Anna only EVER took max of 24oz in one day - I hear babies taking 40oz a day!!

But that was enough for her:flower:

We were told you can't go by the tin - we really struggled with knowing what to give Sophie because she was premature and tiny, so even going by her due date, her weight and age were not even close to matching each other so the tin guidelines were useless for us, lol! I mentioned this to our hv and she said you should always go by what the baby wants rather than what the tin says.

We always just increased Sophie's up to the next amount on the tin if she seemed to be still hungry and she took what she wanted and left or puked up any excess! Apparently babies have some kind of valve thing that shuts off when their stomach is full which is why they puke up any excess - it just sits on top of the valve and then they are sick.

At 8 months old, (5 months going by her due date) Sophie is having 7oz every 4 hours xxx

Definitely can't go by the tin. It's just a guideline to get you in the ballpark. Gabriel only takes 4 oz about every 3 hours at 8 months. I make up 5 oz, but he rarely drinks it all except right before bed when he takes an 8 oz bottle.
