Hey All,

Just a quick question :) The midwife put me and jacob on easy digest milk because he just couldnt stomach normal milk and needs to be introduced to it in a few weeks time, right now on easy digest he only goes 2-3 hours between feeds as it goes right through him, HV said this is absolutely fine. But a bit exhausting for mummy as means he could feed 8-10 times a day!!!

Were going to be introducing stage 1 milk slowly, one bottle a day for the first week and up it slowly and take out easy digest. Anyway me question is how long is your baba going between feeds and how much is he/she taking each feed?? and how much does he/she weigh?? (sorry just some 4 weeks old only weigh 7-9lbs etc and jacob more :))

As Jacob does take 4oz-5oz each bottle right now(Bare in mind he is 10lb 12oz last week ) (which on normal milk should mean only 5-6 feeds a day but right now its far far more!!)

Im just wondering as i would like to see the feeds spacing out a bit with the thicker milk as it has something more to it :) But what if jacob is used to eating this regular and when i introduce it he continues at this and is over feed?!?! I know baba will only eat when he is hungry and i should just feed him when he's hungry but I just wanna know what everyone's baba :)
Ok rambling over :)

Mine is only a week, but she takes 2-3oz every 2-3 hours, at night time she goes a little longer usually... I mix pumped BM with formula and that does seem to help her. I couldn't pump for 2 days and she ended up gassy and constipated.

It is better for them to feed smaller amounts more regular anyways... Definately sucks... But I guess theres not much we can do :)

no advice but have to say 10lb 12oz....wow!!! hes doing really well!!

Max is now 5 months eating solids and still taking 6-8 feeds of formula per day , at your sons age he was taking about 5-6 onz every 2 hrs

Yeah smaller is better but as i up his feeds im being told by the Health visitor he should go longer otherwise he is overfeed, which i dont want to happen :) hence why im just checking what everyone elses are doing :) for the same amount of food etc :)

And wow a week already!!! Where does the time go :) XXXX

Jack is 6 weeks and 2 days old and i have just started him on 6oz bottles of Aptamil 2 and he goes about 3 or 4 hours between feeds during the day and about 5 at night. He weighed 10lbs and 5oz last Wednesday.

maddi is now 4 months and take 7oz 4 to 5 times a day roughly at 3-4hour intervals. i'm sure when she was jacab's age she was taking 3-4oz 3 hourly - 6/7 a day, she feed like a piglet then if i remember rightly  sounds like jacobs doing wonderfully ema, well done mummy :hugs: x x x

I was worried about Mia overfeeding on formula at first.
She started a bit under the middle line on the weight chart, and by 6 weeks had shot up to the same distance over the middle line !!!
The health visitor told me that although a baby my be sucking it's hands etc... it doesn't necassarily mean it's hungry... it's just instinct. She told me to be quite strict in timing, but allow her to drink as much as she wanted at feeding time. If she was still rooting in between, to offer water or a dummy.

She has evened out now on her weight chart, and is following the same line.

Theory is, that as she was 2 weeks early, she hasnow found her natural weight line, and will continue to follow this given that she recives the righ amount of formula. Every baby has a differet spot on the chart, so try not to compare to others... plus the length ( height) of bubs is a huge factor too.

He sounds like he is doing fantastically, well done Mum !!! :D

Right Zane is 5weeks+4 and he feeds every 3 hours sometimes every 2 and drinks 3-4oz! i tired givin him 5 oz so he had more time between feeds like he used to but nope he wont have 5oz anymore lol n he was weighed today at 10lb1 :)

it is tiring but needs to be done n there are ways to make feeing time easier liek boile kettle 1 hour before feed so its right temp and i no we arent supposed to but i make his night feeds n put in fridge so all i ahve to do is stick em in boiled water to heat up :)

Alasdair is a big baby - followed the 91st percentile for weight and height but has now dropped a bit for weight (between 91st and 75th) still at 91st for height. When he first started having formula from bottles he was about 2 wks old and I don't think he ever had less than 4 oz. Possibly more like 5. He went up to 7 very quickly. just make sure you aren't feeding him if he's just tired or needs a bum change and you won't be overfeeding.

Lola at over 6 weeks takes 5oz every 3-4 hours.

She was a really tiny baby and didn't eat much for the first couple of weeks but is now really gaining to it and has only 3lbs before doubling her birth weight!
Don't worry hun, sounds to me like he's doing well.

If he isn't spiting it up,then he's fine. :)

Hi ema, elliot's 7 weeks old now and at last weigh in was 9lb 15oz. He has 4oz every 3 hours in the day, and goes 4-5 hours gap at night so has approx 7 bottles a day.

we put him on hungrier milk though, as the normal stuff wasnt satisfying him but more at once made him sick.

keely.

courtney has also been on easy digest milk since really little (now on lactose free) but with easy digest... she would sometimes go 2 hours sometimes go 6!! She was easily draining 6oz a time ...!

Hi Ema and ladies

Not been on for a while ( no time then computer crashed and had no internet!!!!!). Anyway, good to see you're all ok.

I was wondering similar things to you Ema. Not wanting to hijack your thread, but wonder if I could get everyones opinion.

Gabbi is now 7 weeks old and I have been told twice now to change her feeding times/amounts.

She is a sucky baby and although I don't like giving her too much in fear of over feeding but if she wants food she gets food!

Oh, I am formula feeding more or less all the time, but she still goes on the breast too (although there's nowt there!).

Anyway, the amounts have been growing slowly by the week and I have changed the times so she doens't get fed too often.

Story:
I was following a certain routine but it didn't quite suit Gabbi, so changed it till she was happier.
Then, Pediatrician said to feed her every 3 hours. WELL, COLIC, need I say more!!! It was just too soon after feeding, 3 hours was enough enough time for her to digest (I presume). SO, I (mummy who knows best!! lol) changed it to every 3 1/2 hours (as I read that breast milk takes 3 hours to digest and formula 3 1/2 hours). She seemed much better.

Anyway, we went for a check up at docs this week and she is now 5.2 kgs (11.5 lbs). Round about the 14th October she was 4.2kgs, so she has put a fair bit on! BUT, the doc asked how often I fed her, I said 5 times minimum in day, once or twice each night (normally once), each day is different (this is in 24 hours). She said that she is slightly heavy for her age (she weighed 3.06kgs (6.7 lbs) at birth, (4.2kgs 9.3 lbs) at 4 weeks and 5.2 kgs (11.5 lbs) at 7 weeks) and putting too much weight on so feed her every 3 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh for goodness sake! It is too much and she seems happy , most of the time, with the hours that we keep.

She feeds, on average every 3 1/2 hours, sometimes 3 ( but only if she hadn't had full feed) but could go as long as 4 hours.

Anyway, after reading up on here and on the net, I have come to the conclusion that she is fine and dandy and not over weight. What do you think?? Should I change it all again or stick with the routine? I must admit, her thighs look very hevty tonight, very big! All babies have a double chin though and her cheeks and so adorable.

Anyway, no time now but will post a picture very soon.

I say just do what you think is best hun!!! Your the mummy!! and ive had hv telling me to feed smaller feeds 7 times a day!! Its not possible for my LO!! She wants her full feed and wont be happy if I dont give her what she wants!!

Carry on what your doing... your doing fab :yipee:

ive just changed elliots feeding pattern slightly-hes having 5oz now and going 4 hours between feeds in day and approx 6 hours at night now.he seems a lot happier now.

Wow, sounds good. Gabbi is a day younger and takes that amount now, although not lately regularly.

Gabbi was doing really well, but over the past week or so (since we both had the snuffles), the routine is not going so well. I've just been reading on another thread about reflux! Never heard of that before! She has a lot of the symptoms, refusing to eat/eating less at times although still hungry (like looking for my nipple!), cat napping, less sleep in general, irritable and screaming or general whinging, spit up/slight vomitting, always gets hiccups (although she has had these since birth, after each feed).

In fact she's off again now! Fed her about 3/4 of an hour ago, put her down and after 5 mins screaming. Then settles for 5 mins then screaming again. She has been like this for about 5 days now.

Not sure what to do as not sure if reflux is what they call it here in BG! OH says to give her some water after feeding to get rid of milk in her mouth or after she's been sick to rinse her mouth/throat. What do you all think? I have to say, we as adults wash our mouth out when we've been sick, same for babies??

hey you

Hermione is feeding every 31/2 to 4 hours. some days she only feeds 5 times and some days its 6. however what i was told is that normal formula takes longer to digest so they go longer between feeds ( as she goes shorter between the expressed feeds as is quikcer to digest) so that would explain why he is munching more as its digesting quickly. there will be no problems when you go onto the first stage formula of him taking longer between feeds as he will automatically be fuller as it will take longer to break down in his little belly.

hope that helps
