I just started pumping bc i want to have a bottle on hand in case my husband will give her a feed so i can sleep, or if i want to see a movie with friends. but how much does a 4.5 week old need for a feeding? right now i have a 4 oz bottle done up.

thanks :)

4 oz is plenty. My 13 week old regularly takes 2-2.5 oz. Most he ever took was 3.5. He reverse cycles though, so when I get home he marathon nurses.

I would probably, if they were feeding him, only warm 2 oz in the bottle, then each additional ounce if he still wants it. Be sure to use slow flow nipples, if it is too fast it will force him to eat it all and overfeed, which can lead to him vomiting it all up...(I speak from recent experience, and I was using "slow flow" nipples!)

My daughter took a 2.5 oz bottle from her aunt while I was at the grocery store and when I came home she slept for 4 hours without needing to eat again she probably would have slept longer but I made her dream feed for peace of mind cause I thought she'd need more than 2.5 oz...she's 4 weeks as well btw.

Oh and she might eat the entire 4 oz just because its there...the first time I attempted a bottle I did 5 oz which was way much but she ate the entire thing. So maybe split the bottle up into 2 2oz bottles and if after the first one she's not content or sleeping then give her the other 2oz.

He started drinking 4oz of pumped BM around 4 weeks and is holding steady there currently as well.

Mine would drink about 2 oz. went upto about 3 at 2 months and has just jumped from 3 to 6-7 at 4 months lol. Big jump I know shocked us first time lol

My LO was taking 2.5 ounces at that age. Only went to 3 around six months and now at 4 at eight months. Some days she only takes 3 at a time still.
