I've heard many answers, from 5 days before your missed period, and to wait till AF doesn't show.

I'm just wondering what everyone's opinions are.

It depends on the sensitivity of the test. First Response claim to be able to detect pregnany from 6 days before AF is late i think? Which in my case would be tomorrow at 9dpo.
Personally I think that's too early as your chances of getting a BFN are fairly high as implantation can occur later than that.

I think many people advise to wait until AF is late because by then your hormones will be in full baby mode so a HPK will be clearer.

Hi Staci....

Do you know when you ovulated? They say that you cannot get a positive preg test until you are at least 12-14dpo. Of course everyone is different....but this is a general rule of thumb.

Good luck!!!

Physiologically, your body doesn't begin to produce hCG until 10 days or more past fertilization. That's how long it takes for the sperm to find the egg, fertilize it, then for the newly formed zygote to travel the fallopian tube and into the uterus - then implant into the uterine wall.

Sperm find egg and fertilize it - 48 hours
Zygote travel to uterus - 72 - 96 hours
Implantation - 96 hours
(approximations)

Implantation is what triggers the production of hCG, and the level has to be sufficient concentration in the urine to trigger the positive reaction on the test. So add a day or two for that.

10 days at a minimum from the moment of fertilization. Because we're not sure of that moment it could be anywhere from a day or two more.

So if you have a 14 day or more luteal phase, you could possibly test 5 days before AF. However, if you are like me, and have a 10 day luteal phase, testing that early would be physiologically impossible. I'd get a BFN every time. Best for me to wait till I expect AF.

HTH :)

You're ticker tells you, assuming you have a 14 day luteal phase. I wouldn't test much more than a couple days before then. 12 dpo can still give you a false negative.

Hi There,

Not sure where is the world you are but I tested at 8DPO with a tesco own brand test and got my first positive. I have done 2 clear blue digital's since and have got my BFP!!!!!

Good luck!!!

I tested positive at 10DPO, my sister didn't till 17DPO. Everyone's different.

Although, I did read somewhere (can't remember where) that your odds decrease after 11DPO, but of course, everyone is different (look at me and my own sister!!!)

I personally recommend FRER, and FR Gold Digital. Worked like a charm for me, it was even more sensitive then my own doctors test!!!

GOOD LUCK!

I tested at 12 DPO and got a negative. AF is due today so waiting until she is officially late before I try testing again.

Personally I'd say wait until AF is late just so you're not wasting your money on tests. Or try using some ICs. :)
