Evening all, or morning now should I say :haha:

Can anyone help me with how I de-scale my sterilizer. We've been using it for just over 12 weeks now, and have yet to de-scale it, and looking inside, it needs it.

We have the Tommee Tippee Electric Steam Sterilizer.

Do you have to put some sort of liquid in, then put it through a cycle, then wash it out, and put the cycle on again with just water?

Also, if you do use a liquid, what is it that you use.

Thanks everyone, I cant find the box or leaflets, and it really needs doing.

:flower:

I run mine a couple times empty - first with water and vinegar and them a couple times without. Keep running it with clean water until it doesn't smell like vinegar anymore. I do the same thing with the coffee pot. :)

I would use vinegar and water as well if you can (we never had a sterilizer but we descaled our bottles with vinegar and water :))

I use vinegar and do it at the same time as descaling the kettle (iuss Tesco value vinegar, about 15p a bottle!) put the vinegar in the kettle, switch it on and wait till it starts to bubble (so itsfaitly hot but not boiling) switch kettle off and pour a bit into the empty steriliser (enough to cover the grey bit at the bottom) then leave it for 30 minutes. Once done pour away the vinegar and run a cycle with the steriliser empty. I generally do this once a fortnight (we live in a hard water area).

Tommee Tippee recommend using Boots electric steriliser descaler - I have the same steriliser as you. I found that after 4/5wks my steriliser cycle got shorter - from 5 to 3 mins - and when I emailed TT customer service they said it was probably because it needed descaling. You get 6 sachets of liquid in a box and should use it every 4 weeks.

I have to say it worked a treat!
