My husband and I started trying in June 2013 and we knew we'd have trouble right away. Growing up, my periods were never regular. I'm talking like 45+days between periods, sometimes the rogue hair under my chin, I wasn't really overweight (maybe 15 pounds over average). I was active but not overly so. I didn't pay much attention to the lack of periods - in fact, growing up and not having the typical PMS symptoms was kinda awesome. Not so much now...
I was diagnosed with PCOS in January 2014 after taking the initiative to speak with a fertility specialist. Here in Canada, you can go through your family doctor for a referral fairly quickly or even in certain circumstances, refer yourself. They did the basic blood work, hormone check, and checked my tubes. Ultrasound was the thing that confirmed it for me. Lots of cysts. I lost my right ovary but apparently the left is still kicking. I don't really have many symptoms - no real cramping when I have a period, it's usually very short, very late and not overly heavy.
We were prescribed 50mg of Serophene which is basically like Clomid. The first cycle produced a pregnancy but sadly, I lost it at 5.5 weeks. Vitamin D is something that was suggested to me if I encounter a second miscarriage - but apparently that's a recommendation not endorsed by all obstetrical practitioners.
I just finished my last pill today so that means baby dance for the next couple days! Keep your fingers crossed.
Hope this helps you out, best of luck!
Best of luck to you.
