A little history:
My DH had a semen analysis done Feb 2012 and it was PERFECT! RE kept calling DH "a buck" saying that the SA was so good! :haha:

Well, after I have gone through all my testing, had a Lap and dye done, etc, etc we received the all clear to start TTC naturally (after we also got a genetic issue resolved - such a roller coater this TTC thing is).

RE decided to recheck DH sperm (I'm not sure why he wanted to but we did as asked). It was completed right in the doctors office and the lab is right there also. Results? TERRIBLE!! Less than 0.5 million!! Severe oligospermia!!

How does this happen in one year?? No change in diet or anything. My husband hardly drinks alcohol, does no drugs. He is only 31 years old. Has anyone ever heard of this before? SA was so bad, RE froze the specimen and said the ONLY way we can get pregnant is with IVF??

I am really freaking out here! Please help me calm down... I just don't understand how this happened or how it is even possible??

DH is going to do another SA next week just to be sure but my RE has already set me up for IVF since he doesn't think it will improve, he actually thinks it will be worse?!?

Please someone tell me this is not possible!!

My husband had three SA's done and each one had very different results. The first two he had done were fine, but this last one was not good. Of course, we are questioning the timing that the tests were done. SA's can be different each time. If I remember correctly, to produce a good sample, he should abstain from any ejaculation for three to five days. Also, the tests should be done within a certain timeframe, usually 30 minutes. Anything after 30 minutes to an hour and the sperm can die off. So maybe they didn't do the tests in a timely fashion. Did your DH say or recall anything about not being comfortable doing it? I know that what I am about to say is definitely TMI, but my DH said that when he did his last one, he couldn't concentrate, which could have contributed to such a crappy SA this last time. I'm not sure...it could have been anxiety about everything. The urologist that conducted my DH's last test has recommended he get his boys an ultrasound to rule out a blockage or another problem. <---All of that came from my DH

I hope for y'all's sake, his next SA will be great and this last one turned out to be a fluke. :hugs::hugs::hugs:

did you guys have bedding that day or day before or maybe (tmi) gave himself a happy in the last two days as that can dramatically drop the count...

xo hope you figure it out and all is well

Hi ladies! Thought I would give you an update. DH did another SA today and results are so much better. 26 million with "great" motility but only 13% morphology. I'm really not sure what happened last week but we are thinking it was just a fluke... Phew! Now we are worried about morphology. RE is saying still do IVF with 13% normal morphology but I'm reading 14% is good? I don't know, my DH and I have some decisions to make. Natural cycle, iui, or continue with IVF as previously discussed. Besides morphology, it looks like everything else is great/fixed. We'll see, right now we are still trying to come down from finally getting some good news!! Like I said earlier, what a roller coaster this whole process has been. We've been trying for about 20 months now, can't wait for the BFP. Hopefully it comes soon for all of us!!
