so my girls got weighed today and they've put on 1lb each in a week!!Is this too much? I thought they were meant to put on a 1lb every two weeks. The girls take about 3-4 oz every 3-4 hours. Although I kinda feed to demand if it has been less than 3 hours since their last feed I make them wait. Am I feeding them too much? They now weigh 7lb 5, which for their age isnt big (they were 4 weeks prem so only weighed 5lb 1 and 4lb 9).*If I am feeding too much how do I lessen it. I couldnt bare to listen to them cry from hunger.

No it's not too much don't worry! At that age gains can be erratic and they are doing a LOT of growing. There were a couple of weeks when my LO gained around 1 lb too and the hv told me it was "fantastic" :D

When the HV came to see me the other day he said to only get him weighed once a month because of things like this, weighing too frequently can cause unnecessary worry as it can show "problems" that aren't actually there.

That is actually really good news :)

My daughter gained 12oz this week...I asked if this was too much, the HV said there is no such thing as too much weight gain at this stage really. So it is good news!

Ds was weighed last week, he'd gained 12oz in a week. Got told it was great too. Don't worry.

My daughter was 7 weeks prem weighing 4lb 15ish (they only ever gave me her birth weight in KG and not "proper" money - grrr!). She's had a few weeks growing up where she's jumped a whole 1lb in a week - and I was like "eeeek" with all the scaremongering about formula and obesity jumping into my head. In hindsight though if you look at her growth chart - she's got a flatter period at the start before her growth just starts to follow the same sort of curve as the standard centiles - just moved along the page a little bit, and the HV just said it was her starting the catch up to term babies - which in terms of her size she's pretty much done now as she's in 6 month clothes at 6 months.

If you're in the UK - they should be tracking their weight measurements back to their adjusted age - focus on THAT for the centiles and NOT their actual dots (of course this depends on having someone doing the weighing that remembers to do this - E's growth chart is an utter mess as different people track back different amounts, or not at all and then the one health visitor who's organised about it gets pissed off and re-does the entire lot of the track backs when she's in doing the weighing!)

Marcus gained just over 1 lb once in a week!!! he is now 15 lb 11 oz which for his age and birth weight is spot on. It all evens itself out-way i think about it is the times i have been to fat fighters and been really good and lost no weight then have a really huge weight loss the next week- same concept just in reverse!!!

He has been FF since 4 days old and not obese at all (nore was he at birth despite having an obese mummy) x
