My boy seemed hungrier than normal. My gut feeling was to persevere on normal milk and ask for advice when needed, i mean who am i i'm just a new mummy. Again, advice is usually mixed which is fair enough. I wanted to try LO on hungry milk but was scared because of peoples experiences of LO getting constipated/bunged up. He is 8 weeks on Tuesday. He has now been on it a week and is doing well. Winding better, taking the milk slower, more settled and pooing as normal (which was my main worry, infact he is now doing a regular poo a day). He just seems more satisfied in general.

All i really want to say is if you want to try an alternative for your LO go for it. They really do tend to tell you themselves if they can tolerate it. Some babies will, some babies won't.

Also if i hear about World Health Organisation recommendations one more time i think i'll scream. And that's coming from a first time mum.

Hungry Milk might not work for every baby. My LO might still have his bad days on it till he's on solids. (at 4 months btw) but don't be put off if you think your LO just needs that little bit more.:hugs:

Im glad hungy milk has worked for you and your little one..
If you dont mind me asking just out of interest and im not going to moan at you but how come your starting solids at 4 months and not the new 'recomended' 6?

X

In my honest opinion i feel these recommendations are part of our new hyper sensitive views towards health and safety. My HV even said she started her 4 kids on solids at 4 months. Lets be honest, would we all be here today if we had to wait 6 months for solids? If my LO is still content at 4 months with milk then great, if not then i am willing to be flexible with the recommendations. Never done me, my brother or sister any harm.

I feel exactly the same way!! My LO is 8 weeks old and already tries to steal food off my plate if i eat near her.. She wont be waiting until shes 6 months thats for sure!!

She already has 8 oz of hungry baby milk 5 times a day so its going to be a struggle making her wait!

Xx

Exactly my feelings. I know this isn't for everyone but i just can't see my wee boy going 6 months. How would we feel if we were starving yet limited in what we take. Babies have been moving on from milk pre 6 months for generations.

I just felt there weren't enough pro hungry milk posts on here

hi hun
i started harry on hungry milk yesterday hes 18 weeks i breastfed till 4 months. hes suddenly become very hungry so far he seems more settled on hungry milk. im trying to wait till 6 months to wean him as recommended by my gp as my daughter has allergies.

We would all still be here if we were weaned at 6 months but there would be less of us with ibs and gluten intolorances.

My LO has always been a hungry baby and on the larger side too (always been in the high 90's percentile) though I've never found the need for hungry baby milk though I can understand why some mums use the hungry baby milk. I just increased her milk intake and found this settled her fine, she was at one point on 9oz-10oz bottles every 2-3 hours which was attributed to a growth spurt (the 4 mth growth spurt was fun!!).

I'm still unsure about the benefits of hungry baby milk and sometimes wonder if it is just another product the companies say we 'need' just like goodnight milk etc. (I am genuinely curious and not trying to start any debate :) )

I think hungry baby milk is great, we would have used it more for our lo but we were staying in the Middle East at the time and we had to import it from UK so ended up costing about 30 pounds a pack - a bit too expensive!!

We also weaned at 4 months and our lo is doing great. The guidelines for leaving weaning until 6 months are currently being looked at anyway and may change back to 4 months so I always say go with what you think. you are your baby's mother and know far better what they need than anyone else!

Possibly, but remember those conditions have a lot to do with diet after 6 months aswell. We live in a fast food society. It's uncertain that being weaned before 6 months causes those conditions.

Whilst hungry baby milk is useful to delay weaning it is designed to make the baby feel full quicker. A baby wants more milk as they need more calories through a growth spurt. Hungry baby milk doesnt provide that! Early weaning is ok for medical conditions but weaning a baby because they are reaching out for food isnt a true sign of needing to wean. Signs like that are all part of normal development and imitiation. They cant show you what is going on inside, their body CAN take food from 17 weeks it doesnt mean that their organs are developed enough that they should. I take the research over tradition any day!

im mixing harrys he has hungry milk first thing and before bed and first milk the rest of the day x

weaning before six months is actually quite a new thing; historically up to 60-80 years ago and even up until the present day in most societies; weaning was undertaken at 9 months to a year.

I weaned my first very early 14 weeks and she is fine small fore her age at 6 and no allergies so far and Ellie is being weaned now recommended by BLISS ( a network for prem babies) as her iron levels are very low so she needs to get some sort of iron or she will end up in hospital, I agree everyone should have their own say in their babies lifes

Plus with the health professionals concerning Ellie I have NO trust what so ever they told me at 23 weeks I should terminate as Ellie had edwards syndrome I went with my gut instinct she was born early but fine and then they havent picked up a serious hip maybe even spinal problem so how should I trust them to tell me when and what to feed my baby, after all if the health professionals talk me into it Ellie would have been here to wean!!!!! xx

Exactly, hand blenders have only been around 60 ish years.

We live in a fast food society now but back in the 50's and 60's when our parents were born they dident and its them that are suffering.

All a matter of opinion i suppose. Illnesses happen, and i personally don't believe people get these solely through early weaning.

If it wasent true they wouldent have changed the guidlnes back to 6 months for this reason.

BTW I weaned my eldest at a couple of days before 17 weeks and he suffered from severe tummy aches and constipation, I gave him plenty of fluids, fibre, fruit and veggies but it didn't help, he did show all the signs of being ready to wean and was advanced for his age in many respects but his insides simply weren't ready.

The guidelines are currently being reviewed again. I have said i am open to weaning before 6 months, doesn't mean to say that will happen. Will wait and see. It's like anything else in life, early weaning may mean some problems for some people, but it might not. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who were weaned early who have had no problems in later life.
