I am the only one who doesn't have (and doesn't want) a smart phone?

My best mate refuses to have a smart phone, all she wants is a phone.

It should just be able to call and send texts, that's it.

I would actually like to have a phone that could only call, and couldn't receive or send txts, but I am pretty sure they don't exist

I don't have one or want one. Too expensive monthly, plus I don't really need one. My computer is fine.

I am addicted to my phone. I'm in a love hate relationship with it. I love it as i can do anything on it, I hate it because I cant put the thing down. I often have it in my hand, or in my pocket, it's never far from me!

My DH doesn't have a smart phone. He uses his phone to answer calls & he rarely sends an SMS. His phone is over 6 years old. He's a successful business man. He doesn't have a Facebook & I manage his emails.

One of my big issues with Smartphones is that they give kids unmonitored access to the Internet. Lots of families have the PC in the living room but then give their kids a smartphone meaning they can access the internet anywhere, anytime.

I agree, lo was playing with my phone the other day and it shocked me to realise he already knows how to get the you tube app up to watch mickey mouse.
What i realy didnt like though is he pressed the app shop button and just doing a random button press search the first load of apps that came up where things like sex noises, naked girls, striper wallpapers, porn maker and it worries me that these sort of things are so easy to get off apps and just a button press for these 11- 15 years olds to get

I used to say that .. and then I got a smartphone.

I dont really use it for apps and downloads and all the crap goes with it, but i love that i can brose forums and news when travelling etc. and takes good pictures i can upload when out!

This story alone,

is enough to persuade me that children and teenagers should not have unrestricted access to the Internet via Smartphones. Absolutely horrific.

That is horrifying

I don't have one yet but i do plan to at some point. I actually have an iPod that is hooked up to our wifi at home so i guess it is a bit like a smart phone, i just can't make calls on it.

I wouldn't buy my child one just because it was a smart phone. When my children reach the age when they need a phone i will consider all phones and contracts and make a decision, if the smart phone is the better deal then i would get it but i would have to place a lot of restrictions on it. My 13 yo niece has an iPhone 4 but tbh she doesn't use it that much - she very rarely takes it to school with her and she doesn't sit texting or talking on it when she is with us. She will sometimes play games on it when in company.

I dont have a smart phone but i do want one (although i think part of that is because everyone else i know has one! including my neices who are 13 and 8!!)

The thing that does bother me about them though is when people come round to visit me and then spend half their time lookig at their phones - i think it's really rude!!!

I have a smart phone and PAYG so I top up £10 a month.

I love my phone and ease of camera etc all in one place.

I don't have one and don't really want one. If I had one I'd never be off the internet and thats not good for me. Plus Maria likes to play with my phone so I'd be scared to have an expensive phone that she might break.

Have to say, I was gifted an IPhone and whilst it is useful, I'd be more than happy with a normal phone again! Using it sucks the living crap out of the battery and I'm always terrified that I'm going to drop it. So whilst I do have one (purely out of generosity, wouldn't have bothered getting one otherwise!) I do agree with you! X

I deliberately only have a basic Nokia that does calls and texts. In my last lifetime, when I had a career, I had to use a Blackberry and it took over my life as clients, friends etc. realised I could be contacted at all times via email and it drove me mad. I never had a holiday, weekend or even evening without being interrupted. So now I am technologically regressing and loving it. Plus, the most basic phones tend to be the most baby and toddler proof - I am the only mummy I know whose phone has not died a death through dribble, being thrown violently etc.
