Hey ladies
I am curious to know how many of you have pcos, and if you were told you were just fat, if that applies to any of you. I went to an OB in 2007 after I skipped a few periods. I thought that something was up, since AF hadn't shown in a few months, and I was feeling funny. That OB told me I was IR, (i had no idea what that was) she told me that it takes 8 -12mos to get pregnant, and that I should just continue trying. Take glucophage and wait and see what happens. From the time I remember my periods were hit and miss. I seemed to have a 35 or so cycle legnth, but it became a 90 day cycle after my wedding in 2007. This OB saw me four times, and didnt ever perform my pap smear. she said that our insurance wouldn't pay for it, since I had a pre existing condition. which wasn't the case. So after much frustration with her, i changed OB's
This doctor was a male, which I wasn't crazy about, but hey, you gotta do what ya gotta do. He presribed clomid in 2008, and said I ovulated. But i didn't concieve that cycle. so we just tried again, still no BFP. after months of ttc, and ultrasounds, bloodwork, and all, he looked at me and said, "take yourself by the hand, drag yourself down to weight watchers and lose weight" Yeah, that's what he said...... I thought okay, seeya... I was having pelvic pain at this time too, and he proceeded to tell me i wasn't having pelvic pain, and that it was most likely due to bowels! (that was the first time i said I had pain) this pain was like a knife being jammed up my who haa. if ya know what I mean... after seeing my GI doc, and finding there was nothing wrong with my GI system, i went back to my OB. He told me " the pain is from a thick uterin lining" you don't have regular periods, and therefor the lining of your uterus is thickeneing. He sent me home with provera, and birth control pills. Needless to say I changed doctors in Oct 2009 and my first visit to this OB was amazing. I had these symptoms while seeing the other two OB's
weightgain (trouble losing weight)
skin tags
high blood pressure
high tryglicerides
irregular or absent periods
infertility
depression
dark skin between breasts and back of neck since I hit puberty
excess body hair
cyst on ovaries (found by ultrasound in Nov 2009)
thinning hair
dandruff/ dry scalp
insulin resistance
and the day i went to see my current OBGYN I walked out of her office knowing that i had pcos, and it was confirmed a short time later by ultrasound and blood work
keep in mind, my mother, sisters, aunts, and grandmother do/did not have this condition. I am the first female in my family to be diagnosed
as for all the pcos and ttc ladies out there, keep your head up.
and do lots of research on pcos. There are support groups onlin, websites with information and tons of learning materiaL. Family members will benefit from this to, they are unaware of what pcos is, and they don't understand how it can effect us the way it does
