Hi,

I am not very aware of the c section thing but, i had emcs with my first. I am pregnant again, andwas wonderingwhether I will have to have c section again? or can I give birth vaginally?
I heard that if you have section once future babies will need section too?

I had an emcs with my first they are now classing this pregnancy as high risk and I am under consultant care but they have said to me I don't have to have another c-section I could have a vbac if I wanted too. Hope that helps

Thank you so much. I would be very gladif i can go naturally but, not sure how they decide those things.
Thanks for your input. And good luck for your natural birth plan.

It depends on the type and location of the incision, your doctor, the baby's position, and the thickness of your uterine scar. If the incision was vertical, or if the scar tissue is too thin (which could mean a higher risk for uterine rupture), then you would need a repeat section.

Definitely ask your doctor. :) My OB doss not perform VBACs ever, so I am seriously considering finding another doctor for my next pregnancy.

It should be your choice, and up to you to decide. I'm not sure where you are, but certainly in the UK you should be supported if you choose to VBAC. They will warn you of risks and would mostly likely recommend continous monitoring, but again, that is your choice and you can decline it.

It seems things aren't quite as easy in the US but I would hope you could find a doctor who supports Vbacs.

Fizzyfefe, thanks for your reply. I am in Japan and so far just heard of this particular case of my colleague's wife. I will be moving to another city when I am 6 month pregnant hopefully I will have that choice to go naturally.

Amelia, last time I went early because my water broke and had my baby without any pain. Of course csection hurts but, my mil have history of going in early labour so I am terrified of the thought of going into labour when noone is there to take care of my daughter. Hubby works 1:30hours away that is even worse. Anyway, i am so thankful for your positive words. I will insist on natural birth and see what is the outcome.

The general consensus in the UK is to promote VBAC as a birth choice.

It depends on why you had a section the first time but it's quite rare that you couldn't medically try a VBAC, I think a vertical incision is usually a reason to not try a VBAC.

Here in UK it's actively encouraged by NHS for women to VBAC, however we do have the choice of repeat section too.

A VBAC isn't always successful - a previous section increases your risk of another section - but if it's something you want to do it's definitely worth trying. For me I chose repeat section, as my personal situation meant that the odds were stacked against me for a successful VBAC and I preferred a planned section to an emergency one but every case is different.

My usually anti-C OB is saying no way to a VBAC for me, especially if I have another large baby. She said she would have considered it if it was 5 or more years between pregnancies.

5 or more years between pregnancies is a long time. How big was your baby?

Thank you all for your replies but, I lost our second baby at six weeks. Hoping to conceive soon after I pass this baby naturally or through D&C.

Technically once you have one c-section you are more likely to have another, unless you find an OBGyn and Hospital that will do VBAC's.
