I got scans every 2 weeks but I don't think that's standard. I have a wonderful consultant and my second loss was a 2nd trimester one so it was just for reassurance.
I know a lot of girls have had at least one earlier scan though so I really hope you get a nice midwife.
For me my consultant had said I would get one and I asked when I booked my first mw appt - they arranged for epu to call me and arrange for a scan at 7 weeks. I was advised that they may use this as my dating scan- I did know, however, that my area was offering nuchal scans ( not all areas are doing these yet ) so I would still get a scan around the 12 week mark. As it turned out - my appt was at 6+5 weeks so they didn't use it as my dating scan as it was too early.
The only other additional nhs scans I have had were at 22 and 24 weeks as I had too much amniotic fluid (which has since sorted itself out ). I had a private scan at 8+4 as that was after the point I mc previously.
In Edinburgh because of budget cuts, they won't scan you at the epu unless you have suffered 3 or more miscarriages.
Having said this, if you are spotting or in pain then they would see you regardless.
We can self refer to our epu and they are so nice and were totally apologetic that they couldn't offer me a scan. They did say that the head honchos had studied the women who had one first trimester loss and they considered that the vast majority went on to have healthy pregnancies next time, so were wasting resources on a very low risk group!!!
Good luck in your area and have a great hopefully stressfree pregnancy!
thanks ladies think I will ask and see what happens off to the doctors tomorrow. did another test today as I just don't feel pregnant but it was positive again - need to chill out !
I was told I wasn't entitled to one as there's no reason why I should suffer another MC. My midwife just told me to "relax, I'm sure it'll be fine" Hmm thanks for that! x

I found out that at my hospital, if you are a recurrent mc patient, ie have been referred for tests, then you get extra early scans - every 2 weeks in fact. Otherwise its just the normal 12 week and 20 week ones unfortunately
Im a recurrent miscarriage patient. I didnt get an early NHS scan until now. Im on my 4th pregnancy. Iam 7wks on monday and have my scan then. Try and push for one it cant do any harm x
Miscarriages are common one in three women miscarry and you need to have three MC before they will give you any extra scans
She also said that they don't scan anyone before 10 weeks, but when I get my booking in to ask again and the midwife will get me in as soon as she can.
Although they do booking in at 8 weeks which falls for me over christmas and there were no appointments so she will be ringing me back at the end of the week with an appointment
She also said that they do the downs syndrome scan which is done the week before so if i went for that then i would get in sooner
I guess thats the answer I thought I would get but i am glad I asked to make sure
Thats rubbish, i think they should let you have one.
Ive had 1 MC in sept 2010, asked GP about early scan and she said very unlikely.
So i rang epu at my hospital and told them i was nervous and stressed, they said i could come in the next day.
I guess it all depends on the local NHS trust, im based in north london.
