do you have to go in to be checked or can you stay at home until your contractions start and you need to go in?

Thanks :flower:

I always thought you had to go in to get checked because there may be a risk of infection :)

you do not need to go in! The earlier u arrive at hospital more time for interventions. I labored at home with broken water till my contractions were regular and 2-3mins apart arrived at 7cm.

Nope you dont go in. When mine broke i rung the midwife to tell her and she said its best to stay at home and wait for contractions and then wait for them to be every 5 mins! otherwise you could get there and they'd send you home anyway lol

Oh good! I really want to stay at home for as long as possible as don't want to mess about with child care for my little boy and want to be away from him for as little time as possible. My waters didn't break with him as the hospital broke them for me

x

My waters went at 1am, i phoned the midwife to let her know but didn't go to the hospital until 5pm the next day when the contractions became too much to cope with x

they tell us here that if waters go you have to go get checked

I didn't think they liked you to go too long after they break without being checked if you don't go into active labour within 24 hours or so? Risk of infection I suppose?

you should let them know but say because of childcare arrangments that you cant make it in and book a time to be seen ( normally 24 hours after waters breaking but NICE guidelines state upto 72 hours is acceptable providing there are no other signs of infection )

My guidelines state I should call them if my waters break. If my waters break but labour doesn't start I have to go to the birthing clinic to be checked; if my waters break and labour starts then I have to go to the hospital. Check with ur midwife hun

I was always told by my provider once my water broke to come in immedietly because of the risk of infection if you labor over 24 hrs after it breaks. But, I think its a personal choice and how you feel. I would just talk to you provider and see what they say :)
