I'm not going to go too much into detail here.. but about 2 weeks ago I went to the bathroom and went to go wipe and saw something not normal. I tried to brush it off and thought it was just the pregnancy extra discharge thing; I didn't even think to research it. A few days ago (so 2 weeks later) it happened again, not as much but same thing. I just looked it up tonight and exactly what I saw everyone is describing as mucus plug (to be honest I didn't even know we had that or what it was). It was NOT bloody. I have been getting small cramps and pains but nothing consistent most of the time its in the morning when I wake up my uterus feels almost sore, its actually really uncomfortable but I figured small pains are normal, infact my doctor told me small aches and cramps are normal, so I'm assuming the two have nothing to do with each other.

A lot of people say its normal and it happens to them and it'll grow back or they'll make it until 36 weeks before going to labor! I guess me being only 23 weeks am really scared about my chances of going into preterm labor, does this make it more common? Has anyone else had this happen to them and everything be fine?

Popping over from third tri! Ive never had that problem but I have heard its normal in some ladies and as long as its not bloody its nothing to worry about! That it will grow back too! Good luck! (Good news is ur almost to v-day!!) If you are worried talk to ur midwife/OB for reassurance :)

id call your midwife. that happened to me and i went into ptl. dont wanan scare you honey. it is more then likely nothing

I have read on here several times about ladies losing their mucus plug w/o blood. Witch resulted in nothing happening. I'd be a bit worried personally too only being 24 weeks but I personally wouldn't worry to much. But giving a call is completely harmless even if it's just to inform ur ob.

I had that last pregnancy. Got induced around 37 weeks so was uneventful for me

Did you bleed when it happened to you?

losing your mucus plug is USUALLY accompanied by a bloody show. since yours was not, it may replenish itself as it sometimes does. please make sure that you do get checked out JUST IN CASE. Some women lose it early and nothing happens, but frankly at 23 weeks, id be freaked.

I lost my plug at 32 weeks never had my baby until 39 weeks. Its not always indicative of labour, but it never hurts to run it by a doc and get there opinion. Best of luck, hope its nothing.

no it was not bloody. just looked like a big booger. again.. not trying to scare anyone :hugs:

I lose clumps of plug all the time. Same with my first pregnancy and at 23 weeks first time round it scared me to go to L&D and be checked which was really reassuring. I did have my son at 34w6d (100% healthy) but have other factors going on.

When you lose your actual full plug you will realise how little those "big booger" clumps are! Your full plug is about a tablespoon of slimy slippery booger! And even if you lose the whole thing it regenerates completely in 24 hours.

If you are concerned about it or the cramping though just get checked. Better safe than sorry.

Things that could make you lose some plug are things like walking lots! sex. excercise you dont normaly do. doing these things dont MEAN it WILL happen, but these things could make it happen. If there no blood present, then all should be fine. It grows back. My midwife told me, its there to stop infection getting to baby, if some of it gets compramised, it will come away to make way for clean sterial plug to take its place to keep baby safe.

This is my second pregnancy, Ive been getting it since about 18-19 weeks, I walk 4-5 miles a day, everyday to get my dinner (we buy on the day) and nothing bads ever come from it. and babys moveing around like a treat,

If you get blood, then go to the midwife straight away! If you feel something is wrong, then go get checked.

good luck hun! xx

I lost my totally with my first at 27 weeks and went into pre-term labour which was thankfully stopped and I managed to hold on until 35 weeks (bed rest and medication). This pregnancy I'm already losing bloody streaked mucous from the plug and have been taking antibiotics as a precaution against a sneaky infection getting in and kicking things off again. I notice if I have a very active day I lose more. I'd def get it checked for your peace of mind but as many ladies have said it may mean something or nothing at all, better safe than sorry:flower:

I've heard it's constantly regenerating- what u lose is only cos a new healthier one has grown and pushed it out!

I've been losing my plug fir weeks now and had been with ny previous 2 pregnancies who were both overdue . Is completely normal and can constantly grow back . When I went into labour my first signs were always a huge and mean huge like a tennis ball amount of my plug come out with blood . Of course though if your worried don't hesitate to ring your health care provider x

It grows back normally. I lost mine in chunks last pregnancy and each time thought "fuck!" as it was too early (33 weeks) and then "oooh, is this it!?" when again at 37 weeks but nope...39 weeks was when she made a move.

how do you know if its mucus plug or just regular discharge????? what i get looks like what would come out if i blew my nose...

Thanks everyone for your replies! I feel a little better. My appointment is the 7th so I'll have the doctor check everything then, I'm pretty sure everything's okay I just wanted to make sure all of a sudden I dont start going into ptl! And mine was definitely not that much, and it honestly looked like I sneezed all over myself it was definitely mucousy, and NOT normal from any discharge I've had with this pregnancy. And I havent had anymore since the other day! So I hope it was just the excess stuff that's already grown back by now!! Thank you again everybody!:flower:

welcome hun - just watch out for feeling any pressure, bleeding of course, and decreased fetal movements / lower kicks
