Infacol vs Gripe Water?

Hi Girls,

Okay so the HV has put Kyle on Infacol after witnessing one of his trapped wind 'attacks' a couple of weeks ago. It does make a difference to his general temperament but burps can still be problematic to get out.

I tasted it the other day and was quite shocked at how sugary and sweet it tasted. Is gripe water any more 'natural'? And any better at getting burps out? I don't really want to be having to give him Infacol for the next 6 weeks (and GP won't give it to me on prescription so that's a lot of bottles to buy!)

Have been to see an osteopath and he has said there is a misaligment between his skull and digestive system - he did some massaging of his skull and Kyle instantly did huge poos and farts! Need to have a couple more treatments though to see if it will actually do any good.

Anyway! Infacol or gripe water? Any thoughts??

Thanks
Pie xx

not really gona help but i had my little one on infacol for a while. it cost a fortune and i too was worried about all the rubish in it. it worked though. looked at gripe water and it still seemed to have lots of e number etc so stuck with infacol as easier when bf.
i recon ostiopaths/ chiros will always find something wrong with you even if there is not.

u cant use gripe water from birth but u can with infacol, im not sure what the age on gripe water is hun, we used infacol with charlie and we're using it again with Harry seems too do the job x

Both are good - but gripe water is defo not less sugary... and its a mess to administer as you need to give a larger volume of liquid and its sticky if you get it everywhere. You can give gripe from 1 month old.

I would stick with the infacol if I were you. x

I use infacol but Daisy doesn't like the taste of it and cries after she's had it so I might try gripe water.

They both have good and bad points and are equally popular. Usually a case of trying both (after 1 month) and seeing which you both prefer.

Thanks guys, it's a total pain having to give Infacol before each feed (and remembering!) now have 3 bottles next to each one of my feeding stations! We have just got rid of thrush and now this :( ho hum! Will probably give gripe water a try and see if it gets those burps up a bit better x

Ive used both hun and neither worked for me really! if infacol works then i would stick with it - i found that gripe water gave fin really violent burps that hurt him, he screamed so much after the burp! and i only gave him a half dose!

i started off with Infacol, which was ok, but seemed to take a while to actually work. After 5 weeks, we switched to Gripe Water (the sugar free version) and it worked straight away for him... I give him just 1ml (it says to give up to 5ml, but we've never needed even remotely that much!) after every other feed & he burps within seconds, and I noticed it also makes him poo more regularly too. (plus, it makes his breath smell kinda minty, lol).
I firmly believe that it's a case of trial & error though!!! What works for one person, wont work for another so just see how it goes. My sister swears by the dentinox colic drops for her lo, whereas one of my friends says colief is the best thing ever.

I dont know what the gripe water is there but the one i have says newborn and up Carter has it now and than it makes him burp instantly and its more natural than other remedies. I had Carter on Oval drops because he gets some brutal gas sometimes but i dont like to give him stuff with meds or anything like that in it unless its really bad but its whatever makes the little one feel better sometimes. I know Carter gets really upset sometimes with his gas its heartbreaking

We use infacol and didn't think it made much diff but when we stopped after 2 wks we could def. tell the diff so we're back on it for another 2 wks.
I was so so shocked when I looked at the ingredients on the gripe water bottle - it's just a list of chemicals and e numbers. Infacol seems much less artificial.

I used infacol for a few weeks but it didn't really help my LO, so I stopped using it and he started to burp naturally. I'm not sure about the gripe water, I never used it. But I was the same as you, I was really surprised how sweet it was, but i don't think it should be problem until LO got teeth.

Cheers girls, will have a look in the supermarket next time i'm in town. We tried the homeopathic Colosynthe granules but they did diddly squat and just taste of sugar too!!
