Not have a night buffet???

My reason for this is because my wedding is not untill 3pm. The sit down Hot buffet (main meal) is not untill 7pm. Is there any need for another buffet for the night disco?

My MIL said that we cant just feed people once (we are trying to save money) so she has offered to pay for an evening buffet, but I think it will go to waste because no one will eat it after a massive main hot buffet especially if it doesnt finish till 8:30pm. So I had the idea of a 'Cocktail Hour' it is very americanised, but here in England we have canapes anyway right? So Would it be acceptable to serve nibbles and canapes (cockatil hour) between 4-6 when the photo's/ mingling/ post ceremony chatter goes on and then the main meal at 7-8:30 with the speeches and then go straight into the night without more food?

:hugs:

Yeah, I would have nibbles and things between the ceremony and the hot buffet. And if you anticipate it being a late one, you could continue the nibbley bits after the hot buffet too

it will be a late one. but I was going to serve our second wedding cake (we're having two because the main one is for dessert) for the evening nibble.

I would have a cold buffet it is cheaper and if you know anyone with a costco card you can buy massive food platters. I have done this aswell :)

Oh yeah, forgot about the cake :dohh: ignore me...your idea sounds good!!

 that's what we are planning on doing if we go for a DIY buffet, or even if we dont go for buffet as the main meal, we will probably still do this for the evening! I love costco :cloud9:

im unfortunately not allowed to bring food from other places into the venue!!!!! We have to purchase the food from the venue.

Yep I would do that.

We are getting married at 3pm, having a buffet at 5.30pm and another at 8.30pm but that is because they are buffets, if we going to have a sit down meal I would have nibbles, the sit down meal and coffee and cake a little while later

xXx

That sounds fine to me. We served our hot buffet at 7pm (we got married at 4) so I think that it's fine. I think another buffet will be wasted tbh x

I was at a friends wedding recently and her's was the same sort of times and she put plates of shortbread and german biscuits (made by the hotel) decorated in her wedding colours on all of the tables so that while the wedding party were getting their pics done we could all have a wee nibble.

I thought it was a good idea (cute) but TBH I don't think that we would have minded if she didn't give us anything as we had lunch before going to the ceremony and then we had our sit down meal at about half 7 and having a few drinks inbetween kind of fills you up a bit anyway.

I have also been at a wedding where they done the speeches and cutting the cake before the meal and pics were taken and they served some of the cake as a snack inbetween, it was a bit unusual but it worked just as well as any other wedding I've been to

we are cutting the cake (and doing our first dance) inbetween cocktail hour and the hot buffet. It is a bit american- but it seems like a bloody good idea to me!! PLus we're serving the cake as dessert so it has to be cut up!
