This may be a silly question girls, I'm not sure  Anyway, I have been looking at some very reasonably priced second hand mamas and papas baby play mats and gyms on ebay and then I wondered if it was okay? You know like when you have to buy a new mattress for a new baby, is it the same for a playmat, cos they do lie on them? Sorry if that's silly! :hugs:

I have second hand. I steam cleaned it once and will do it again close to baby arriving. Thats what I would advise on any second hand baby equipment if possible.

As long as you can clean it properly and it came from a smoke free home then buying second hand is fantastic for your pocket and for the environment. Good on you

Oh yes, I love second hand and hand made things novmum, I just had a niggling thought about the safety! Thanks for your replies, I will get it dry cleaned thanks anothersquish I didn't even think of that! x x

I've bought lots of second hand things, and even have borrowed others. For example, the gym is going to be lent by some friends who still want to try for their third baby.

Just clean it well enough, and let your LO enjoy it.

I bought a second hand playmat for DD2 for about £3 off eBay and made sure I washed it before she used it, had no problems

I'd say as long as you wash it properly then it's fine. Although they lay on play mats, they don't really sleep on them, which is the issue.

Our baby will be using the play mat that our niece used when she's at grandmas, but it is going to be washed first because she's thrown up on it more than once.

Happy shopping!

I wouldn't but if you are make sure its come from a smoke and pet free home and is cleaned before your LO uses it.

try and find out if they came from a smoke and pet-free home!! other than that, i dont see any reason why not! im ebaying it up for a lot of the big stuff too!

i was just wondering the exact same thing, ive found one for £2 and i can pick up so no postage

I don't see why not, it's not really any diff to a friend or family member giving you second hand stuff xx
