My husband and I picked out the name Judah for our son. We both love it, its meaning ("praise the Lord"), and that it comes from the Old Testament but ties with the New because Jesus is from the tribe of Judah and is referred to as the Lion of Judah. I told my mom & the first thing she says is "you're naming your kid Judas after the betrayer if Christ?" No...we're not. Two very different people. But now I'm worried people will think that. Is it really that confusing? I realize it's one letter different, but one letter makes a different name...thoughts?

I actually really like the name Judah. I haven't heard of it before.

But coming from someone who isn't religious, my brain kind of automatically thinks of Judas. But in saying that, I'm not sure if that's just because you mentioned it... But i definitely didn't think that you had named him after Satan lol.

Sorry if this rambles and doesn't actually help. But first impression: love the name.

I'd never heard it before either but complete opposite to pp I didn't think of judas at all

I have heard of it and I knew it was biblical. I may not be very religious but I am well versed in religion so I never even thought of connecting Judah and Judas because they are not the same person.
I think if you like it keep it. Only those who don't have a good understanding of religion will confuse the two names. Those who have no religious background will probably never even think of Judas.

I have no religious background and automatically thought "isn't that the dude who betrayed Jesus in the bible?".

I still think it's a good name though and I like it. It's solid and strong.

Sorry, Judas immediately came to mind for me. Probably bc I have never heard the name Judah. I've never thoroughly read the Bible, so i'm not familiar with Judah. But I think most ppl know who Judas is.

I guess Jude doesn't have the same wow-factor for you? (Love the name Jude!)

I don't confuse the two names together, I think it's weird that your mother did. My cousins name is Judah and his father is a pastor, his name is never confused with Judas.

I didn't think of Judas but come from a catholic family. I think Judah is a lovely name, it made me sing Hey Jude haha x

I'm not religious at all, and I didn't think of Judah. It reminds me more of a variation of "Jude" from the Beatles song than it does the Bible. I think its a cool name and you should go for it if you love it :)

I'm not really religious, so therefore never made the Judas connection, but I did think of Jude, which I love.

I didn't think of Judas and surely everybody knows that the guy who betrayed Jesus was Judas and not Judah. Who would think it was Judah!?

Not religious but I was raised in a church and know the story of Judas but not Judah. I didn't think of Judas.

I did think that it sounded biblical but not associated with Judas.

And even if it was Judas, I still like the name Cain/Kane so I wouldn't be judgy about it.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. We have decided to stick with Judah. I don't think most people will be confused and even if they are at the first moment they hear the name, they will then see that it is a different name. He has been Judah to us since the beginning, so I can't see changing it at this point. I just hope people don't think we named him after Judas!!
