Morning all,

We've ordered the BBT thermometer, we've got the Pre-seed, got the OPK's etc etc.

Just a thought, if ( and we are!) a couple has unprotected sex twice a day, everyday, surely if everythings ok down there ( for both of us) then it will catch the "fertile period".

Unless having sex twice a day is bad for TTC?

Please dont think im being niave, but i am of the impression that as long as there is a constant "deposit" of sperm then we dont have to worry about "the right time and nature will take over?

Morning Mark,

I am sure that I read somewhere that sperm needs time to "re-generate" as such therefore it is better to have sex every other day (the doesn't mean to say that if the mood takes you that you shouldn't go for it because the last thing it should be is regimented and organised...takes all the fun out of it and increases stress/anxiety levels)...I am pretty certain that a man who has sex for the first time in 2 weeks has a higher "potency" of sperm than a man that has it every day.

This may sound disgusting, but think about if you have food poisoning / vomiting...the first couple of times you are sick you are very much sick...but eventually there is nothing left in your to come up. Sorry it was the best analogy I could think of.

No one will think you are naive, TTC makes a lot of people ask questions they would have previously thought to be common sense.

Good Luck

There's nothing wrong with taking a relaxed approach to ttc, or to using all the resources available - it's just personal choice :) There's only a 20-25% chance of falling pregnant each cycle for a healthy couple in their 20s, so regular sex is good but no guarantee of conception.

Twice a day every day seems like a lot of sex! Apparently, more than once a day depletes the sperm reserves, but if you have that much sex because you want to, I don't see a problem. The general concensus is that sex every other day and then every day around ovulation should give a constant deposit of sperm to meet the egg. If you just don't feel like having sex one day, don't force yourself! You don't want it to become a chore.

xx

Yes and no!!

It is possible for a woman to have an anovulatory cycle where she doesn't release an egg at all so no amount of :sex: will result in conception.

The nice thing about temping is that if your chart shows an obvious temperature shift "up" then you can be sure ovulation has occurred. :flower:

Sorry, I have nothing intelligent to add (the replies you already have seem to cover it pretty well) but can I just say WOW!?
:sex:
I'm a little jealous....

Anyway, good luck!

Hey Mark, my DH had a SA about a month ago and his findings were fine BUT his GP advised that we should be having no more then 3 times a week as any more and his sperm reserves would be too low.

Hmm, this is interesting. We tried every day during the fertile period last cycle, maybe this cycle we will do every other. I wish there was just a rule that applied to everyone about how much to BD, life would be so much easier! :haha:

I know Lisa, it is such a nightmare! We have stopped doing every other day and just make sure that 3 days are done somewhere within the week - it makes it a lot more enjoyable not having it planned :haha:

Lol, it isnt planned, we have sex twice a day because we want to, not because we are TTC!!!

Does this mean we now have to reduce it to 3 times a week???? :growlmad:

I asked our FS if it was better to BD everyday or everyother day just beacuse of all the things I've read. She said it really depends on the males sperm if its great there's no need to wait and do it everyother day but if the swimmers aren't too good maybe not enough or low mobility it would be best everyother day.

So I guess each case is different

This whole ttc malarky has got to be enjoyable, so I wouldn't change your routine too much - have as much sex as you like! If it gets to a year ttc and no luck, maybe look at the options. Otherwise, just keep enjoying yourselves and I'm sure that you'll end up with a happy baby conceived in love (man, that was schmaltzy!) xx

Mark, I think you can bd as often as you like during the tww when you're past the fertile window anyway.

Do you ladies know for sure though? Does the every-other-day or 3/week rule apply for the whole month, or only leading up to OV?
