Is there any reason NOT to go on to stage 3?

Just wondering... I know there are quite a few threads about not actually needing to change to follow on milk when baby hits 6 months as it's pretty much the same as first milk, it just that the companies can advertise follow on and get their name out there!

but... if this is the case and it's more or less the same, then I was thinking of changing to it because it's cheaper!! and you can get deals/points etc on it.

Is there any reason I shouldn't change? Different on LO's tummy?

Thanks. xx

It contains more iron, which some babies might struggle with. My friends' baby had an upset tummy recently and the Dr suggested it may be due to the stage 3 milk they'd just started, but he couldn't be certain. He advised her to go back to stage 1 anyway.
Most babies are probably fine on it though.

i never used it with Jack or Leah as stage one was fine and im of the opinion that if it aint broken......................

Maybe it depends on what kind of diet your going to be weaning onto? I'm veggie so I will probably go onto Stage 3 at some point as there may be less iron in my son's diet as there will be no meat. Probably would only use it when he was older though - probably 9+ months as like the previous poster said too much iron can cause constipation and an upset stomach.

Thanks, I am slowly starting with BLW so was initially a little concerned with the amount of iron, nutrients etc she will be getting at first. But think the first milk contains plenty to be honest so not worried about changing for that reason. It was just that if the iron content wasn't very different in stage 3 then I would have changed due to the reasons stated in my OP (call me a cheapskate!).. but if the iron content is more and therefore may cause tummy problems I think I'll stick to stage 1.

Thanks everyone. xx

ive just started LO on stage 3 milk as i dont think he needs hungry baby milk now hes being weaned...but havent noticed a difference in him at all xx

It's not as filling as hungry baby formula, so it's not a good idea to switch if that's what you're using - at least not til they are cutting down on formula.

We switched Imi at 6 months and she's BLW so didn't have a huge intake of food but still cut down her milk compared to her hungry baby. It def seems thicker in its make up and although you use the same amount of scoops the scoops in aptimal stage 3 are slightly bigger x
