i am 24 weeks pregnant now, and my hubby is planning to take 2 weeks paternity leave when baby is here. He went in work last night and and told boss as we read you have to inform them 15 weeks before baby is due, so he did this and was told " Oh yeah just bring the baby's birth cert in when hes born and then you can claim it"!!!!!! Hubby's employer is a real tight ass and wont pay him full pay so hes having to get SPP for both weeks, im worried because he doesnt get his wages in the bank, is in a wage packet and paid end of week, if he has to claim SPP wont this mean he will have no wages for the 2 weeks until the claim comes through?????
Can somebody please help me figure this out im so worried now!!! sorry for the essay btw.

found this on directgov... says nothing about having to hand in birth certificate as proof.. https://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/BenefitsTaxCreditsAndOtherSupport/Expectingorbringingupchildren/DG_10018750

xx

im not sure how it works, my dh had to give his work a form at 25 weeks, just with rough dates, which are obviously changeable, but the ssp will be paid in place of his weekly wage

Get your husband to take a copy of you matB1 form proving EDD, that should be enough.

Paternity pay is pants.. about £120

if there are problems speak to the CAB or ACAS for employment advice

Hi Charlotte

Get your husband to print off a copy of the SC3 form (which is the HMRC form for paternity pay) and can be accessed at: www.hmrc.gov.uk

All he needs to do is fill in the details, take a photocopy of it for his own records (and in case they claim not to have received it) and give it to his boss - or better straight to Payroll/HR/Finance if available.

Most employers only offer statutory (£123.06 per week) so it will be a cut from his normal salary but they do have to pay it if he meets the qualifying conditions.

At my workplace we encourage individuals to submit the form in early and then only when the individual confirms the baby has been born and their paternity leave started does their pay get adjusted to SPP.

thankyou you eveyone for all your replies! ive been off net for a while so not got back sooner but thankyou again we managed to sort everything out. xx
