Issue with our boy name

I know this is early for me to be worrying about but, we've already started talking about it and we have a big problem if the bean is a boy.

We are set for Ella Elizabeth for a girl (Elizabeth is his sis' middle name and she passed so it's to honor her).

However, for a boy, he is firmly set on Troy Thomas. Thomas is DH's name and I have no problem with that for the middle name but I really don't like Troy. Hubby is crazy about sports and his fave football player is Troy Aikman so his whole life he's wanted to name his boy Troy Thomas, YUCK! I'm torn. I don't want to be a biatch and take that away from him but Troy is just horrible to me.

I love Irish boy names such as Aidan, Madden and Liam. I am really leaning towards Madden now because Aidan is so popular and I have a nephew named Liam.

Our compromise thus far is Troy Madden which I still don't like. At all.

personally I wouldnt name my child something that I didnt love just because my DH was stuck on it. naming a child is compromise and if you really dont like it then it shouldnt be used I think you both should love the name and he should understand that you dont like it. you both should write a list of names you like and then compare them to see if there are any on the list that are alike and go from there

I like madden would go well with Thomas as a middle name to

Madden Thomas is a great name and still makes me think "football." If you truly don't like Troy then you shouldn't be coerced into naming your child after a quarterback!

Troy Madden sounds cute to me.

However, i would never choose a name i didnt love let alone even like!

I love Madden Thomas...I would NEVER ever name my baby something I don't like...and I would NEVER ask my OH to name our baby something he didn't like. So just let him know how you feel. He should respect that and understand.

My husband was really set on the name Richard after his Grandad. I like the name but not with our sirname as I worried about teasing. Hubby was really upset so in the end i agreed we could use it as a middle name - maybe you could do that...

Madden Troy or Thomas Troy both sound nice

I am all about the Madden Thomas, sounds strong and definitely football! I would say to not let him pick - I understand it is a compromise and all but you have to feel like you child fits its name - you will probably have a good feeling when you meet him. Keep us posetd on your thoughts!

I too would not have something i didn't like. Maybe Troy as the middle name. Troy makes me think of a gladiator.

Don't call him a name you don't like just to keep him happy, it needs to be something you agree on. We had so much stress picking names as OH and I don't agree on names at all, but we got there in the end! xx

Madden Thomas Troy maybe? I agree, don't go with a first name you hate. But maybe you could have it as a middle name as a compromise? They're hardly ever used anyway and your OH could still say he's named after the football player.

Troy Madden isn't a compromise really is it? Because the only thing thats changed is the middle name and you liked Thomas anyway!! Thats his way of saying he's compromising but he actually is still getting his own way!!!

Me and my OH decided I was to pick the girls name and he was to choose the boys name.
I decided on Cassidy for a girl and my OH's choice...............BEAR! As in Bear Grylls!
Luckily our baby came out a girl and the problem was avoided lol.

My advice to you..... Pray for a girl !!!

Thank you so much for the advice. Bekkiboo, so glad you had a girl! Bear is crazy you poor thing!

I talked to DH and let him know we needed to compromise and that I would never name the baby something he didn't like either. He doesn't like Aidan or Madden so I poured through hundreds and hundreds of names until we found some we both really like. We were able to agree on Tanner or Colten for now. Phew! I have this feeling that peanut is a boy so I feel a lot better about this now.

my oh was obsessed with the name rio, hes some footballer i think, and apparently a legend :/ i soon got him of it by saying we should keep an open mind then i caught him of guard with reece and that was that good bye rio

I think a woman knows if she likes a name or not. Your hubby will get over it. You probably won't. It would bug me forever. My philosophy is to make the wife happy! haha. It should be a name you both agree on. Keep name searching and tell him you can't choose a name until you compromise. That way it's fair for both of you. Because Troy is not fair for you. P.s. I don't like it either. Good luck hun!!

Point out that the Troy (Troy McLure I think) in the Simpsons is a man with a fish perversion and say you think of that every time you hear the name! It could put him off! Don't call your son something you don't like!
