After giving up on BFing today i've been and bought a steriliser, bottles and formula but it's been over 4 years since i FF my first and i dont know the 'rules' anymore.

I know it says to make fresh feed on the tin but that just seems like ALOT of work. When i FF DS1 i used to make a few feeds and store them in the fridge, am i still allowed to do this??? plus when your out and about can you just make up the water and take those little powder despensers with you and make it up when required??? And could you do this through the night and save going downstairs to warm a bottle or would this not be sterile.

i make mine up and put them in the fridge, just grab one and warm up when needed! Then depending on where im going and how long ago his feed was, i might warm the bottle up before i go out, or find a cafe while im out and about. The pots are a great idea if you can keep your water hot enough to make the powder sterile when you put it in. But then you have to wait for it to cool xxx

I put 4ozs of cool boiled water into the bottles, then add 2 ozs of boiling hot as and when I need the bottles.
I make up 5 in the morning and just leave them on the side (with the cooled boiled water in!)

So much easier and it's just hot enough for Jake to have straight away!

I do the same, only I make the bottles up and when they are cool enough I put them in the fridge as that way the water stays sterile for 24 hours and I can take it out and add the boiled water when I want.

I used to use a bottle warmer but I found this way so much easier for nights.

I was wondring how to go about making bottles up too, as my LO is very impatient and nights would be a killer with waiting for the boiled water. Putting half and half of coll boiled water and boiling sounds good, does this mean they are sterile though???

do you have to add powder to hot water anyway???? it says on the box that you should leave it for 30 mins before adding it anyway which wouldnt be hot.

yes it does. the water in the bottles you leave in the fridge is sterile for 24 hours and the water your adding is boiled which also makes it sterile. :)

Dont know what kettle you have but mine is still extremly hot after 30mins. The powder isnt sterile and is ment to be added to hot water to make it sterile. But if your fine with it not being sterile then i wouldnt worry. I didnt used to use hot water but now i have to because we use comfort milk and it doesnt 'work' with room temp water xxx
