Did any of you end up getting OHSS with your 1st Ivf cycle?? I will be starting IVF soon and would like to know if any of you had this.....Was it bad?? Was is painful?? How long did it take for it to go away???

Hi

I got it my first round of IVF, I did not know I had it but the FS told me I got 32 eggs first go mostly due to the fact that I had PCOS. It was a bit uncomfortable but other than that I had no other symptoms. There is mild, moderate and servere OHSS. Mine went away within a week once the FS gave me tablets.

I hope you get your BFP with your IVF. I had my first IVF cancelled due to OHSS but I have just had my second and got a BFP.

Good luck

Hi! I had it with my last cycle which was an IUI. I'm now in my 1st IVF cycle and am scared of getting it again. I will definitely make sure to drink lots of water as I didn't with my last cycle.

I had it mildly on my Ivf cycle, before I even had ec! I was given a course of tablets and it went quickly. Just drink lots, tey isotonic drinks and take it easy :) x

I had 33 eggs retrieved in my first ICSI cycle (I don't have PCOS, maybe they just overstimulated me?) but because I felt ok they put the embryos back. It developed into moderate OHSS - my symptoms were bloating and I had difficulty breathing at a week past egg collection. Symptoms were gone by 10 days past EC. Didn't need to be hospitalised though. They do say that getting pregnant makes the symptoms worse. I luckily got my BFP.

Good luck with your cycle! :flower:

I had moderate - severe OHSS and was hospitalised for 4 days! It was awful. I got 31 eggs - they told me I had pco at the start of treatment and I was given metformin to try and prevent it. I was full of fluid all round my abdomen and back - I looked 6 months pregnant for someone who is usually very slim! My belly button changed shape and flattened too! It's only just gone properly at 7 weeks although I have a little bump still. Mine was caused by the hcg of my BFP so it was good news in the end.

OHSS is one of those things that's not really worth worrying about. If it happens, it happens. On the first cycle they threatened to abandon it because I had prefaced a silly number of large follicles, but when they tested my eastadiol levels (E2s) they were 2000 which is well within normal range. So they went ahead with egg collection, though I had a reduced trigger shot, and harvested 12 eggs.

With the second fresh cycle I proceeded more large follicles, I can't remember how many, it was in the mid thirties with a lot that were over 20mm. My chart was a picture to be honest. I didn't feel bloated or dizzy at all, in fact I felt better than I had with the first cycle. However my eastradiol levels were 14000 and although they coasted me for three days, they kept rising. The cycle was abandoned as my clinic decided that I was too much of a risk for OHSS if they did egg collection. OHSS occurs after egg collection.

With the third fresh cycle, I was on a very low dose of the stimming drugs (half the dose of the first cycle) and egg collection was after 9 days of stimming. A lot fewer eggs (only 6 mature enough for ICSI) but no overstimming drama.

I don't have PCOS, we have male factor issues, I'm young ish (28) and my body just loooves those stimming drugs! Really though, don't worry about it. Having a cycle abandoned is tough, but your clinic will do everything to make sure that you stay well and don't have OHSS issues.

Good luck xxx

I had a severe case on my first IVF cycle. I swelled to look about 6 months pregnant. I had swelling in my stomach, back and even my Genitals!! I had fluid going into my chest and had to be hospitalized and "drained" surgically. After all that i had no BFP to show for it.
