IVF Postcode Lottery - Petition For 3 FREE IVF/ICSI for EVERYONE!!!

Dont think it says where she is from, thats what i looked at at first. I think she just has this narrow minded view and does not take into account things like you said too such as the fact that many of us (including me) have never used a hospital in our lives, never claimed any benefits etc and for many of us its the same for our parents who have also paid shed loads of tax and NI to get nothing back! Some people dont look further than the ends of their noses and live in the selfish little cocoon that is their lives unfortunately. :) x

It was the way she said "your government" that made me think she wasn't English. In which case she won't appriciate how much money our government takes off us to pay for these things!!

Still think she is an ignorant cow though. :growlmad:

Yeah i reakon your right red, i just read it again...... in that case she shold not comment on something she doesnt understand or know anything about. :) Take care chic x

god what an unsensitive cow how dare she comment on something she knows nothing about.

i treyd to bite my tongue on this but couldent so i replied on fisrt-trimester.

further more she wouldent have left that comment if she werent pregnant.

To be honest Lady Blush i thought we would get one sooner or later, just am surprised that it came from a pregnant women who has also struggled to have children......... just shows you doesnt it. I think if she is not English and she has read our comments she MUST be embarrased now we have educated her how the english "system" works, but then again if she had realised how wrong she was then surely she would have apologised. Ney mind eh at least 354 people disagree with her hahahahaha :)

Firstly I would like to state that I do not want to start a debate I just want to let you know of my reasons for not signing this petition and that is it. Also I do not agree with what the lady from first tri said at all. As you will see I am suffering with infertility and have been TTC for 2 and 1/2 years.

I am not signing this petition because;
a) I don't personally agree with IVF, obviously it is a personal choice for everyone and I do not judge anyone who chooses this route and I wish them every success
b) I do not believe this petition will make a huge amount of difference although I commend the attempt, I believe that the system works as follows; (and if I am wrong please feel free to correct me) the government gives a pot of money (a budget) to the PCT's every year and it is the PCT's choice as to what services receive what amount of money, therefore I believe the Government will stand back and say its not up to us, not something I do agree with though. Therefore IMO I believe that in the areas were patients do not get the three tries at IVF through the NHS, they should petition their PCT's and try to get their local MP on board. There are NICE guidelines in affect which I believe are meant to be put in place across the country by something like 2012 (I'm not quite sure on the date but I'm sure its not too far into the future).

As I said I do not want a debate I just wanted to state my views in case this is why other people from this area are also not signing. I am obviously aware that my views will not be popular. Thank you

hey Carebear, not problem with your post, everyone has a right to an opinion and does not have to sign. i totally understand your view if you are against IVF and respect your not signing the petition :)

You are actually right on your points about the PCTs and the NICE guidelines. Many people have done these petitions and one of them got a response from the government before. This was the governements response :
https://www.number10.gov.uk/Page19464

However, it is up to The Department of Health to push the PCTs to make these changes more quickly, but they are not! I am currently in the middle of writing to my local MP and my PCT about the issues, in the mean time, although i know this petition will make no differnence in real terms, it's all I can do to try make a change and at least it is making more people aware of the problem, as many across the forums, including those with fertility problems, were not even aware of this postcode lottery! The petitions is raising awarenesss at least I suppose :)

Cheers :) x

So does this mean if you or your partner could not concieve naturally you would NOT consider IVF? why are you against it?

That is correct we have made the decision not too undertake IVF at all and I am even highly unlikely to even undertake IUI. I have several reasons for it and again I do not wish to debate these they are my reasons and mine alone and would never try to make anyone agree with them.
a) I believe IVF is immoral (not sure if thats quite the right word) and I believe it is playing god just slightly too far for my personally liking, me and my family are a great believer in fate, which by the way does not my infertility easier to accept
b) I believe supress your own system and over stimulating is highly unnatural and not something that would ever happen normally, so again I believe it is playing god too much and messing with nature
c) I hate medication and will avoid it at all costs as I normally have reactions
d) I was ill a few years for a long time which has taken me a long time to recover from and I still have to be careful now so I worry that the effects of the hormones will make me ill again
e) I hate invasive procedures and I think the whole down regging, stimm, scans, egg retretival etc would end up making me so stressed out that it would have an adverse effect on the treatment therefore making it slightly pointless in my eyes
f) A very minor point but it would be so stressful trying to organise the time off and be travelling to and from the clinic again would I be so stressed out the whole process would be doomed from the start?
and finally
g) I want to fall pregnant by myself with just a little help from medication like clomid (which I have taken and will be taking again in the future though I have big breaks between taking that because of the way it makes me feel)

Sorry for the essay but I wanted to give you as full an answer as possible and as you can see a lot of thought and discussion has gone into this decision.

Hi Chocci, thanks for replying and I complete understand your reasons for pushing this petition and I hope it makes a difference, I had a feel someone should be pushing the PCT's hence why I said that the government would say its not up to us which I don't agree with as surely some government body should be pushing this - hope that makes sense! And as you said this is raising the profile of the problem which is never a bad thing! Good luck :flower:

Thanks carebear, I have read your reasons for not wanting to do IVF and agree it does sound like it is not for you particularly with your worries about stress and illness.

Only point I am uncertain of is the clomoid, just intrigued really, and I know you don't want to debate, but i would really be interested to hear why you dont believe that is playing with God? That isnt me being awkward, I really am just intirgued. I am guessing your main problem with IVF is focused more on the stress and potential health problems it could cause you rather than the playing with god points ?? xx

The clomid I see as more of a helping hand as this is not making my body more than what it ought to. I don't always ovulate by myself so I see the clomid as making it do what it is meant to ie ovulate! Plus it seems that the clomid has kicked my body it ovulating by itself more than it did before I took it. The "playing god" factors are important to me but the health and stress factors are slightly more important. IVF just doesn't sit comfortable with me IYKWIM? Truth to be told I would prefer to just be able to take clomid and not have scans or the HCG jab but my hospital won't let me just do this.

Arrhhh I see, fair do's in your case then. Slightly differnet for me. I am ok, fertility wise anyway hahaha, but my husband has severe problems with his sperm and our only option is ICSi as we were told he has little chance of gettingme pregnant naturally, so if i want my own genentic child which apparrenltly I would be able to do with a fertile partner I have no choice but to go down the IVF route or basically leave the man i love and who loves me. Suppose I have no choice but to play with god really :( Take care x

Thats fair enough and I hope it works this time for you. To be fair if it was my DH who had issues the situation would be different and the decisions would be much harder to make, even though it would be the same decision. Now if DH could have it .... just joking!!!!

Hey Chocci I have finally signed, I do get 3 free goes. But i am stuck in an area and cant move cause of these goes. If i move 30min away I only get 1 free go. It doesnt make sense.

Oh and that comment on there that infertility is not an illness. Ohh i could shoot that person. Im 28 with 3 major surgeries and more surgeries for sure in my life and each surgery takes away my chance to have a baby. My illness (endo and dermoids and other bullshit i have) i need surgery which then makes me infertile. Imagine a 27 year old having a 45 year old fertility rate. Thats what I AM... I have fertility of a 45 year old... HOW IS THAT NOT AN ILLNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK IM ANGRY NOW, time to do my boxing session.

Chers Dilek!! Yeah that comment got me too, i ussed one of my other email addresses to add the response further down which called the person an ingnoramous hahaha :) We got our own back!!

Its a joke aint it, that only a few miles down the road and you get less goes, bloody joke, and you are right it does not help people who may want to, or even have to move! What happens if you HAVE to move to another area say for work, how much of a piss take would that be actually LOSING the 3 goes!! Wrong just wrong!

xx

Well Girls if you have not looked at the petition recently am am happy to say we have 415 votes, although the lovely admins on this forum removed all other threads and are only allowing us to have this one. Also I asked that it was made sticky and they refused saying if they sticked all the posts they were asked to then they would have loads, again, nice eh........ people just dont think our petition is important enough, probably would be a whole different situation if they walked a day in our shoes but hey ho!

Anyhow on another sour note we have had some lovely person sign the petition with the following words.....
"Being infertile will not kill you. Stop moaning and pay for it yourself or go without"

NICE...... what lovely people there are out there in the world, and in response to that message I am going to be just as immature and nasty and say to that person I hope from all my heart that YOU or a memeber of your family ARE or BECOME infertile then perhaps you will appreciate the pain we go through every day dealing with infertility, you fking incosiderate, selfish, ignorant, heartless peice of SHIT!

Sorry I am pretty annoyed at how awful some people can be and sometimes the only way to deal with them is to stoop to their level!!!

Hiya all!! Just letting you know that I have signed the petition also! I was not impressed with that comment either on the webisite and it should be removed! xx
