Hi. In starting ivf in a month or 2 n I had a quick question. How many weeks of injections do u take before egg retrieval? Thank u and good luck to everyone!

Hi Addie,

I had 10 days of Puregon (10 injections) and 5 days of Orgalutron (starting on the 6th day) and then egg retrieval was my cycle day 13...

It differs for everyone but if you count on about 12 days of injections and then egg retrieval at 14 days after your cycle starts that's a good guide.

Best of luck.

Thank u so much for sharing and good luck with your pregnancy!!!

Thank you :) early days yet but I am happy to have gotten this far...

hi i started my first injections "superfact" for about 2 weeks. then "Gonal f" injections aswell as the sup0erfact for a week. then 1 shot og hcg a good few hours b4 the egg collection. hope all goes well for u xx:thumbup:

Hi Addie,

I'm on my second shot at IVF and due to take Buserelin for 12 days, then I'll have a scan to see if my lining is ok, if it is i'll be continuing with the Buserelin (at a lower dose) and taking Gonal F. This continues for 12 days when I should be able to take the trigger injection and have collection 36 hours later.
The main thing I learnt from my first shot was that things and dates do change from day to day.
If your lining isn't right you will keep on the Buserlein a little longer until they are happy with you and let you take the stimms.
My folicles didn't grow that quickly at first so that meant I had to inject for an additional 5 days to ensure they were big enough.
It is tricky to keep juggling with the dates of scans, collection and transfer, but try to be as flexible as you can be (that is really difficult with work!) as the important dates do change around.

Oh and the best bit of advice is to drink tons and tons of water during the process. On my last go I didn't at first, but then as soon as I did the side effects lessened.

Hope this helps and good luck.
Liz x

Hello again! Sorry to hyjack your thread addie but could you tell me a little about the symptoms? Im petrified of the side effects as even the pill made me a mentalist.
@addie- when/where do ypu start?. Im starting soon too

My side effects were pretty minimal - before i started drinking lots of water, a couple of days in on buserelin I got a bit dizzy, shaky and anxious just after I injected. But I made sure i drank loads of water during the day and then had a large glass straight after i stuck the needle in! Then i had no problems.
Otherwise, I had a few night sweats and one banging headache. As i got further along with the stimms, my ovaries were a little uncomfortable, but nothing worse than a very mild period pain.
I had absolutely no pain after collection either, just a bit woozy with the sedative.

Once you're on it, it really isn't as bad as you think. The expectation is the worst.

x

Hi it all depends on how you react to the drugs and also if its long or short cycle and what drugs ur clinic uses,

my 1st IVF was 6 weeks of injections long cycle and my 2nd was 2 weeks short cycle

best of luck x xx

That doesnt sound tooo bad so long as i dont end up hitting dh over the head with a pan, thats my concern

Ivf is a bit different for me bc I am doing genetic testing on embryos. Now they are creating probes they said it's coming along great but cant give me a date it will b done bc they won't know till the day it's done or a couple days be4 it sounds like so it's driving me crazy but said 1 to 2 months rarely ever 3. Once that is done I can start injections. On day 3 after embryos r removed they test to see if it is healthy or if it has cystic fibrosis the disease or 1st baby had before pregnancy ended. All injections will b jut like everyone else but my embreyos will b tested n what thry r creating now will ensure that they pick embreyos properly and select the healthy ones . So I may start ivf in may or June dependig on when they finish te probes. I'm hoping for may it's driving me crazy that I dont have a set date but ivf doc said most likely end may or early June. has anyone done genetic testing ???

Hi addie25, I'm just starting on the road of IVF with PGD (preimplantation genetic diagnosis), I have a translocation of two of my chromosomes which means I have a small chance of having a normal pregnancy and a much higher chance of miscarrying, which I have done a few times. I'm not having probes created. What is this? As far as I know (and I could be wrong) I will be starting the IVF process as usual and after my eggs have been collected they take a couple of cells from each one to see if any are any good, they don't do any diagnostic work before then. I hope everything goes well for you, please feel free to chat and compare notes with me! Good luck :hugs:

Hi thanks for sharing! Ok so we r both doing genetic selection but for two different reasons. U don't need probes created bc u r not a carrier for genetic diseases. They use the probes as I am told when then r removing the gene from embryo to see if the baby will be sick or healthy.if baby will be sick we won't use that embreyo and keep testing them till we find healthy ones. He said out of 16 eggs I will be left with 4 to 6 usable and healthy ones. So our steps are a bit different but similar bC they r testing ur embreyos as well. I hope this works for u and look forward to chatting with u about our experiences ! :)

Hi there I have just joined after receiving link from someone else. I too have been referred for IVF PDG have bloods for probes being done on Thursday, I have balanced translocation of 7 and 9. Good to hear fo more ladies going through same tratment

Hi yes it's nice to talk to others who need PDG. What is balanced translocation if u don't mind me asking? I got word today that the probes r done and they just need to test them to make sure they work successfully. If they do (and I sooooo hope they do!!!!!) then I start ivf this May! Cross ur fingers that all goes well and probes work successfully so I can start ivf in May.

Hiya basically chromosome abnormality in the long arms of my chromosome 7 and 9.

Thats great news, I just wish I had a start date :-( Which I will hopefully get when I have my consultation in May :-)

I know it is so hard not knowing a start date. That has been the worst part. Basically it took them 4 weeks to create the probes. Then, they asked for swabs from inside our mouth to test the probes on to see if they can detect the chromosome for cystic fibrosis. If they can test it correctly then they are done and I start IVF in May. This whole time I never had a start date and I still do not because if the probes do not detect the chromosome on swabs then they have to start over (this is highly unlikely) I am sure it will work just fine and we will start in May. I hope you start soon as well!
