Hi girls,

I have my first IVF scan tomorrow (CD8) and am wondering what to expect??

How many follicles will they want me to have, and what happens if there is nothing there!? I'm on the short protocol
:flower:

Hi Mrs. R -- on my baseline scan they saw 9 follicles, then on my first scan after gonal f they saw 6, and on the third they saw 10. I found that it is highly depended on how is doing the ultrasound, so don't try to look for a specific number, it might just drive you mad. At least for me, when they told me only 6 I was very sad, but then 2 days later another ultrasound nurse found 10, so there was no reason for me to have been as sad as I was.

Anyway, I am rambling... I guess my advice is, don't look for a specific number and just take a day at a time. In the end you only need one good egg! Lot's of luck

My scan showed 7-8 follicles, yet on EC they got 12, so try not to read to much into the scan.
Good luck hun :hugs:

As the ladies have said, the scans are really only to estimate....The end result could be very different :hugs: I know it's hard not to stress though

Had my scan yesterday, and although there were lots of little follicles, they said they were too small to measure. They said they wouldn't measure them if they were under 8mm.

As a result, my medication has been put up (very slightly) and I have another scan tomorrow to see if there is any progress. That's 2 scans in less than 48 hours. How much progress can I expect in such a short period of time?

I'm feeling very down-hearted at the minute as they've told me they will give me til Monday to show some progress and if there's none, they will have to review my treatment (ie. cancel it!) Anybody else had so little progress on CD 8?

Oh chum, have no advice but just wanted to send you :hugs:

I'm sure they wouldn't be asking you back so quickly for another scan if there was no chance of good progress in that time though. I know it's easier said than done, but try to keep your chin up.

Thanks steph, just feeling a bit pants

1st of all hun try to relax, The follicles grow on adverage around 2mm per day, so they will see the progress. Keep your fliuds up, stick to a high protien diet and try not to stress, your body needs all its reserve to make these follicles grow.

Sending you loads of hugs :hugs: :hugs:

Hang in there. I almost had my cycle cancelled on my last u/s and my FS said to the nurse to still go ahead and take my bloods. That afternoon my hormone blood levels were good so we had EC a couple of days after that. So if it wasn't for our FS we would have had this cycle cancelled.

Like Bek said, they grow at 2mm a day and drink plenty of fluids and eat a high protein diet. It is a daunting time, no doubt about that. Hang in there and take it easy :hugs: Good luck

Good luck Mrs R

Don't forget that the USS is only 2 dimensional and your ovaries are 3 dimensional. Basically they might not see very many follicles of suitable size when doing the scan, but come EC day they could find more follicles hiding behind others that only become visible on draining ... if that makes sense.

Have been thinking about you lots Mrs, I hope you have had some better news from your second scan. Let us know when you can xxx
