Jehovah's Witnesses

We used to have JW's coming to our house. But when my brother used to live with us, he would pretend he was Satanic and tried to convert them. They got offended, but he explained if they wanted to try to convert him, couldn't he try as well?
We never had another JW knock on our door again.

I've only ever had one JW come to the door - I let him into the building (secure entry system)... bet the neighbours loved that! I actually love a good discussion about religion and if it's somebody coming to you, you can ask the difficult questions without worrying about offending them cos they've kind of asked for it! The guy who came round was really nice. He showed me some leaflets and let me keep them (he didn't ask for money either) and explained a bit about their beliefs. I told him we're Ahmadi Muslims and he was quite interested and pointed out some sections in the leaflets where we have common beliefs. It was really nice actually.

i honestly hate them coming to my door. i had a guy knock on my door then prech to me and tellme to get an abortion when i was pregnant. it took a lot for me not to snap.

some relatives of mine are witnesses too and they tried to make me go with them once when i stayed with them even though im not :dohh:
they felt reallt strongly about 'spreading the word' and enjoyed doing it, it was a whole family trip out!
i find the fundamentals of it a bit wierd though, they all believe firmly in recruiting as many others aspossible yet the faith states that only 144,000 witnesses will be allowed into heaven, i always mean to ask how that works!!!

The rest will live forever in Paradise after Armageddon. No, really.

I know how strange they can be because unfortunately my husband is about to become baptized in a couple weeks to become one.

My OH and I always talk about this! I just can't stand people coming to my door trying to convert me! I think they would be highly offended if I came to their door and tried to convert them to atheism. I don't know why people can't just accept that there are going to be plenty of other people in the world who don't believe in the same way of thinking as them - they have to try and make other people think exactly the same as they do.

We used to get them quite a lot where I used to live. I used to smile sweetly and tell them I worshipped satan. That generally got rid of them.

the used to come to my mums house loads... she sent me out once and told me to tell them we were athiest... instead i said we were satanic by mistake... i was only about 10 lol. i just tell them sorry were not intrested smile and close the door. id never be rude.

I just say im not interested and shut the door

Someone my husband used to know would open the door to them, and let them have their say for 5 minutes or so, then he would ask them if they were aware that he was a slave of satan, and would they like to discuss that, apparently they used to leave quite quickly, we dont agree with this tact but it worked for him.

144,000 will rule in heaven with Jesus. Revelation 14:1.

This government will replace any earthly governments, and yes God (Jehovah is his name - Psalms 83:18) will step in to remove all wickedness and death at armageddon and restore the earth to its original purpose. A global paradise, where obidient humans will live forever, what we were originally purposed to do. Psalms 37:9, 11 and 29 ( may seem like wishful thinking but when you think about, our brains have the capacity to learn forever, our cells seem like they were designed to go on renewing forever, this is why scientists have such a hard time trying to understand or explain why we grow old and die)

Its not just witnesses who will live there (true practicing christains), there will also be a ressurection of all the dead and those who havent had a chance to learn about the bible and gods purpose will be given the chance to do so. John 5:28,29... All this is in the bible.

When you look at the world around us, you can see its not how it was meant to be. We and all the things in it were designed with a purpose. Human government and rulership has clearly failed and demonstrated how humans are incapable of ruling themselves without gods guidance, this is why it has been allowed to go for so long. We have gotten to a point where we are destroying the very earth we live on! It needed to be proven, Gods right to rule was challenged right back in the garden of Eden. The bible says Gods kingdom (rulership from heaven , over a cleansed earth)Is mankinds only hope for the future.

The bible explains in detail the world events, attitudes of society in general and the moral breakdown that would occur in the last days of this system. Matthew 24:6-14, 2 Timothy 3:1 - 5.

This is the whole message and basis of the bible, and the reason why witnesses go from door to door. The bible said that this good news would be preached in all the inhabited earth before the end came ( Matthew 24:14) and Jesus instructed his followers to do so, just as he did, from door to door and any chance he got. Its out of love for others.

A few of the comments on here are ridiculous, being told that someone on the cover of a book was 350 years old but looked 20? Nothing to do with what they teach. Who in their right mind would say or believe that? Never heard anyhting like that in my life and i was raised a witness? Im now 29 years old. Being told by one to have an abortion? Yet it is one of the most seriosu sins a witness can commit, its viewed as murder? Thier literature and the bible states this!

I guess with anything you dont know much about gossip and quick judgement takes place, but you might be pleasently surprised if you actually listened to the truths from the bible that they teach. Thats all they are about.

I think some facts here needed to be pointed out, and no offence to anyone

Thank you for this! One thing I respect them for is that they do actually STUDY the Bible and that they can point to precisely the scriptures on which they base their decisions for the way they live their lives. So few "christians" that I know actually READ the Bible.

I'll grant you, you get weirdos in every breed.... that is true of Church goers, Catholics, Muslims, Witnesses... and atheists as well. Anyone can be a nutter, whatever religion they belong to, or even if they have no religion.

Now that said, I am not a JW. I am not a Christian either. I do not take the teachings of the Bible and apply them to my own life. I don't AGREE with much of what is said in the Bible, and if that makes me a bad person or if it means that I'm going to be denied eternal life in paradise some day, so be it.

You'd actually be surprised how many people DO read there bible AND go to a proper bible based teaching church.

Madasa, it's not about being bad, if by bad you mean SINNER,
then we "all fall short" and we are all sinners, from the pope down.

What is the issue is that. is not the following of a religion which IS mans interpretation. BUT having a personal relationship with God. THAT is all that matters.

When you realise, that you can't NOT sin but your price has been paid, THAT then is a different story.

YOU are aware that JW's are a cult.

Like all non-Christian cults, the Jehovah's Witness organization distorts the essential doctrines of Christianity. It denies the deity of Christ, His physical resurrection, and salvation by grace. This alone makes it non-Christian. To support its erring doctrines, the Watchtower organization (which is the author and teacher of all official Jehovah's Witness theology), has even altered the Bible to make it agree with its changing and non-Christian teachings

Typical with cults that use the Bible to support its position is a host of interpretive errors:

Taking verses out of their immediate context.
Refusing to read verses in the entire biblical context.
Inserting their theological presuppositions into the text.
Altering the Biblical text to suit their needs.
Latching onto one verse to interpret a host of others.
Changing the meanings of words.
Proclaiming some passages to be figurative when they contradict their doctrines.
Adding to the Word of God.

Additionally, the Jehovah's Witness organization requires of its members regular weekly attendance at their "Bible Study" meetings where they are repeatedly indoctrinated with anti-Christian teachings. This is done by reading the Watchtower magazine, following along with what it says, reading the questions it asks, and reciting the answers it gives. In other words, the Watchtower Organization carefully trains its members to let the Organization do their thinking for them. For confirmation of this, please read Does the Watchtower organization control the JW's thinking?

It quote a fact that the bible states, that ..Jesus is the way the truth and the light, and no one comes to the father except through him, whom ever believes in jesus though he where dead SHALL NEVER DIE.

That kinda prooves to me., 1 10 144,000, 10 million, is not a number,
WHOM ever.

Further more the book of Revelation is a highly symbolic treatise (cf. 1:1). Because of this fact, many false religionists have attempted to exploit the message of the narrative to their own theological ends. The Apocalypse has become a happy hunting ground for some religious cultists who seek biblical support for their peculiar doctrines.

Twice in this book, mention is made of a group consisting of 144,000. In chapter 7:1ff John heard of 144,000 (12,000 each from twelve different Israelite tribes) servants of God who had been sealed on their foreheads. They were thus obviously redeemed people. Also, the apostle saw a “great multitude, which no man can number” out of every nation. These too were redeemed individuals who had been made white in the Lamb’s blood (v. 14). They had victoriously triumphed over tribulation, and they served God continuously in his temple. Some feel that these two groups are really the same people —just from different angles.

Again, in Revelation 14:1ff, John saw the Lamb on Mount Zion. With him were 144,000, sealed with the Father’s name upon their foreheads. This great multitude had been “purchased out of the earth,” and they were said to be the “firstfruits unto God and unto the Lamb.”

The “Jehovah’s Witnesses” have almost no concept of the distinction between the literal and the figurative language in the Bible. And so, they literalize the number 144,000 in these two contexts, and ridiculously argue that only 144,000 people will gain heaven. A Watchtower publication states: “. . . the final number of the heavenly church will be 144,000, according to God’s decree” (Let God Be True, p. 113). The balance of saved humanity, they contend, will live on God’s glorified earth. It should be noted that the term “thousand” is used 19 times in the book of Revelation, but not once is it employed literally in this document.

144,000 will rule in heaven with Jesus. Revelation 14:1.

However to answer the OP's question

I dont ever let a JW come into my house, I am polite and say that I am a saved Christian, and bid them a great day.

That always does the trick and they go..

Theres no need to shout, swear, slam doors shut or otherwsie.

we are ALL God's people and we treat others how we wish to be treated...INCLUDING
our enemies..

peace out

NOW>............... its home time

 that has cheered me up. Does that make Google a cult, because your post took seconds to copy and paste (recite) someone elses words and thoughts (from another website)?

This doesn't say anything about going to heaven and could easily refer to eternal life on earth after resurrection as to eternal life in heaven as an angel or spirit or what have you. I'm not saying either is right or wrong, just pointing this out as one example among many thousands which is wide open to interpretation, and one reason I see no point in trying to apply what the Bible says to my own life. It's just too bally confusing.... I don't need a book - or even a man behind a pulpit or in a smart suit at my front door with a briefcase - to tell me how to be a good person
